I use microsoft one and i noticed the changes were not being saved online. So i did a save as version on my desktop and renamed it and it still did not save! I have no idea where to locate the changes I have made these past 24 hours. I look at recent docs and there are zero changes to my document showing for yesterday even though I was editing all day. I have no clue why my documents aren't saving and I need to find the document i lost!

I subscribe to Office 360 - Home. Uninstalled Office and reinstalled a week ago.  Everything has been working fine.  So far that is...

Just experienced the same issue. Worked on a document at a coffee shop in the morning, came home and opened up the file. Changes were there. Everything was fine at that point. Worked on the file again a couple of hours later, saved all the changed and closed word. When i started word and reopened the file all of the changes from earlier in the day were gone. It said the file was last edited over 24 hours ago. There were also no previous versions of the file when i checked.

Since you are referring to "previous versions," I guess that you have been saving to OneDrive? Are you opening the document from https://onedrive.live.com or are you using the local OneDrive folder and synchronizing files?

For sure when it was saved to my hard drive. I am not sure if it happened with OneDrive, but I think so.

    Hello again,

I thought I'd just post again here since the original thread that I opened has been thoughtfully locked by Microsoft without a resolution, or even acknowledgement that there is a problem. Here

I thought this problem had reduced but we've been getting sporadic cases and they seem to be increasing again. I've had two just this morning, one a PC running Word, another a Mac, which points directly to Office architecture, not Windows, causing the problem.

Microsoft seem to be burying their heads over this problem, not even acknowledging there is a problem. Well, I've just been dealing with a user who lost a thousand words of work from an essay that is due in this week which is a major part of their final year's degree work. Perhaps Microsoft could publish some advise on how to deal with users who are tired, stressed, angry and almost in tears because their grades/futures are being jeopardised?

Before the same questions get asked again:

    1. No, it was not saving to OneDrive. It was on the user's network drive.
    2. No the user did not exit without saving, and if they did since we have the 'backup copy if user exits' option set there should be a saved copy.
    3. No, there are no auto recovery files.
    4. No, there are no versions.
    5. Yes, we have tested the auto recovery works.
    6. Yes, we have tested the create backup on exit works.
    7. Like every other case, the users say they clicked on the 'Save' icon periodically.
    8. Like in every other case, the timestamp on the file shows the last modified date and time as at least 2 days ago.
    9. In all cases these are existing files.

The versioning feature was removed from Office several versions ago, so you must have been using an old version, if versions were being used on the local drive.

In a previous message, you wrote that a reinstallation fixed the issue. Are you saying that it has now come back?

If the issue has returned, have you tried troubleshooting add-ins? See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/921541/how-to-troubleshoot-problems-that-occur-when-you-start-or-use-word. (Apologies if you have already tried this. In a long thread such as this one it is getting difficult to keep track.)
