Word is not saving changes to documents

I use microsoft one and i noticed the changes were not being saved online. So i did a save as version on my desktop and renamed it and it still did not save! I have no idea where to locate the changes I have made these past 24 hours. I look at recent docs and there are zero changes to my document showing for yesterday even though I was editing all day. I have no clue why my documents aren't saving and I need to find the document i lost!

    I've lost dozens of hours of editing on almost a dozen documents.  That is why I am on this site trying to find others who are suffering too.  I have tried all ways to get my edits and additions to documents back--to no avail.  Painful beyond words.

    Where did you save the document?  When you save yesterday it was fine, did you save and close it one day, and then open it the next.  Is the file still present in the folder into which you saved it?

    And yes, I fully closed the document every time. I'm old fashioned. I closed the document (and all other programms running) and closed the laptop.
