Labeling unique pages with unique identifiers (name/ID number)

I have one document with 144 pages.  Each page is unique and numbered (1, 2, 3, etc), and I want to label each of those pages with a set of First Name, Last Name, and ID number which correlate to the numbers on the page.  For example, the top of the document will say "Case #1" which correlates to John Smith, ID#22201, then second page will have "Case #2" which correlates to Jane Austen, ID#22202, etc.  The document is not the same, meaning everything else on the page is different text, so I just want to "label" each page with the unique identifiers.  Possible in the footer of the page as the text is crowding.  Not sure if I need to splice each document out individually?  This is something that I need to do every few months with different identifiers (different names that correlate to the same case #s, so I realize I can do this manually - copy and paste the information on each page, but looking for a long term solution.  I tried mail merge, but I am limited in my understanding, and I believe it has to be the same document that can "import" the identifiers onto the same text.  Thoughts?

    Hi Jocelyn,

@Charles, @Doug, thanks for your sharing.

Have you checked Charles's and Doug's suggestion above? Can you label your pages as you wish now? Do you still need any help? You are welcome to share with me your updates here.

    Regards,

    Neo

    Hi Neo,

So ultimate goal is to get the student names and id numbers on each of the pages.  We figured out how to get the id numbers on each page because they are sequential, so there is a page numbering work around.  However, it does not appear that there is a way to match the id numbers and names from an excel sheet, and transposing that information onto the word document.   Unless you have another suggestion, we may have to do this manually every few months.

    Thoughts?

    Jocelyn

Given that you have indicated that the document is compiled manually, simply inserting the name into each document before it is compiled is what you may need to do.

However, If you send me an actual document, that I assume will not be radically inconsistent from page to page, like the mock up that you sent previously, I will see if I can devise a method of doing it.

    Doug,

Thank you again for all your assistance.  Sorry to sound like a broken record, but I am not able to send you the actual document.  If you can find a solution with the mock document, please let me know.

The group of people who compile the documents together into the one 144 page document send it to my department, and within my department, we assign each page/case to the students.  So was trying to find a solution for us matching the cases and students.

I am not a programmer at all but it seemed like something that could be done since there is a unique identifier for the case and the student, so figured the Word document and excel document could work together to transpose the data across lines.  Or this may be some type of coding program or something.  I thought I found something close that runs in SPSS but we do not have that software - it was one I used for something else.

Again, thank you for your help and was hoping someone with more tech knowledge could assist.

    Jocelyn

As I recall, the first pages of that document were like a fruit-salad bowl of un-necessary continuous section breaks and if it is typical of the real document, then I do not believe there is much chance of automating the process.
