Just to clarify, you have an Access front end database, and an Access back end database, with the back end database stored on a network share, is that correct?
If so, which version of Windows is in use for the machine running the front end (client), and which version of Windows is in use on the machine hosting the back end (server)?
You can certainly set the registry key mentioned in that article (you should do it on both client and server machines), although I'm not certain if it will impact Windows 7, but if you try it, let me know whether or not it helps.
The other possible source of this issue is a May update to Windows 10 (

4100403), if either client or server is on Windows 10, you can try the workaround described there, which is to ensure that SMBv2 or SMBv3 is enabled as described here KB2696547
