Display Problem with OneNote app

I have a new Thinkpad P1 with the Nvidia P2000 Discrete Graphics card onboard. I have this following display/screen drawing issue with OneNote app (and only this app)

I have tried using the disableonenotehardwarerenderingx64 utility from Microsoft, but this did not resolve the issue.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks

David

Through my support request with Nvidia's Customer Help system (the link Rena provided), I was informed that the driver I had installed was no longer the latest version.

They referred me to the Quadro driver release #430, dated June 10, 2019.

I've only done a few tests, but it looks like the driver has addressed the issue.  I do not get the same video corruption in OneNote anymore.

Hi All,

Thanks for your effort and time on this case. We are sorry for the inconvenience the issue causes. We have reported and got the response from the related resource. However, it is still recommended to submit a bug report to Nvidia directly. I'd like to share a summary for the issue here which will benefit other community members.

Symptoms:

OneNote for Windows 10 app will have display issue if the computer is using Nvidia graphic card.

Environment:

The computer is running with Nvidia graphic card.

OneNote for Windows 10 app.

Workaround:

It seems that the issue only happens in OneNote for Windows 10 but not OneNote 2016. As a workaround, please refer to Install or reinstall OneNote 2016 for Windows for your need.

Assessment:

The issue is caused by the conflict between OneNote app and Nvidia graphic card. After confirming with the related resource, it is recommended to first submit a bug report to Nvidia directly here.

Sorry for the inconvenience. You can use the workaround mentioned above temporarily. If you still have any concern about this, you can go to OneNote for Windows 10 app > click the “…” collapse settings button on the right corner of the window > Feedback to post your feedback directly. We appreciate your understanding.

Best Regards,

Rena

    Hi David,

Nice to help you on this issue. I have read the conversation history between you and Eli. I notice that the OneNote app version is a little behind the latest version which should be (Version 16001.10827.20178). Although you have tried resetting the app, please try the way below to re-install it and see if the version is changed any:

    1. Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > Select OneNote > Uninstall.
    2. Go to Microsoft Store > Search OneNote app > Get > Install > Launch.

In the meantime, have you tried to update the graphics card drivers/display driver? To do that:

    1.       Open Device Manager.

    2.       Expand ‘Display Adapter’.

    3.       Locate the display driver.

    4.       Right-click on the display card listed and click on ‘Update Driver Software’

On the other hand, the Disable hardware graphics acceleration can be done with Group Policy. However, this is affecting Office 2016 but not OneNote for Windows 10. But you can try to Disable Hardware Acceleration for Windows 10 to see if there’s any changes. You also need to do that via group policy:

    In: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Avalon.Graphics]

    create: DWORD

    name: DisableHWAcceleration

    value: 1

    Restart Windows.

If the issue still persists after you have tried all the steps above, please help us get more information below:

    1. Have you ever run this app well previous on this Thinkpad P1? Or does the issue occur immediately since the first time you ran it?
    2. Your Windows version. For example: 1803 (17134.345)
    3. Is your OneNote app the same version as the one on your Surface Pro 5?
    4. What’s your OneNote app version after you tried re-install it from Microsoft Store?
    5. Can you provide us a video and let us know more clearly about the issue? For example, if the section can’t display fine, what happens if you try to access the section? To collect the video, I will send you a private message like Eli did, you can provide us it there.

    Thanks,

    Rena
