I have been using Microsoft Word for iPad to write and edit documents for a while now and it has been working well. I have some custom fonts installed on my iPad, and those have been working great with Word as well. Until iOS 11. After I updated my iPad to iOS 11, I got an error message every time I opened a file that relied on my user-installed fonts: “There is insufficient memory or disk space. Word cannot display the requested font.”. And the file closes and/or stays open but doesn’t display my fonts. Is this a known issue? Anyone experiencing this? I’m hopeful that this will be addressed in the first post iOS 11 update for Word, but I haven’t seen anything about it online.

I have noted my own problems already but have just discovered that Excel 365 on my iPad Pro does not exhibit the problem, only Word (I don’t use Excel much and rarely need to use custom fonts in it).
This may be of some help in isolating and solving the problem. Hope it won’t be much longer. This is an extemely serious problem for me.
For me the problem has only got worse. I used to be able to remove all custom fonts on my PC Word, then open the doc in Word on iPad and reapply the custom font, after which the doc worked fine. But even that has gone now so I cannot use my iPad for working on most of my existing documents at all.
No doubt a rebate on the 365 licence fee wont be forthcoming; we dont even get commiseration here let alone an apology. What other company could get away with treating its customers like this, and still pay its owner $7m a day?

This is a huge problem for many of us who work with professional fonts (that work seamlessly on other apps and on the Office for PC)
The most recent update (v 2.8, released 11 Dec 2017) has marginally improved this problem.
I still get the error message when opening a document using custom fonts, but the document will now at least open, and the custom fonts are displayed as courier, and are editable.
My custom fonts are shown in the drop-down font menu as "iOS fonts", in contrast to "Office-compatible fonts".
If I manually apply them to any text in a document, the result seems to be something displayed at 0.1 point of text size! I get pages of text that is reduced to small black blob on the page!
It is now possible to make-do, seemingly, but this is still far from satisfactory for a paid service which no longer works as it did previously.
