Hello I have been using office 2016 (16.0.9029.2167) for about 8 months. Today Access will not start. I get the error "Automatic configuration of the current version of Microsoft Access has failed. Your database might not function correctly. This can occur if you do not have the necessary permissions to install Microsoft Access on this computer." Been using Office 2016 for months. Using it as administrator. I have changed nothing on the computer deliberately. When I go into Apps and Features I see that the date against Microsoft Access Pro Plus - en - us is 4th. Mar 2018 which is yesterday in Australia. I did not change/add any features. I have Windows 10 Pro, Version 1709, OS Build 16299.248 Any help appreciated. BTW how do I see if an update to Office occurred on 4 Mar 2018?

Yeah, when I try to revert to 16.0.9001.2138 the 'Downloading updates' box appears for a while, then I get a generic 'Something went wrong' message and it stops... @ RAB1 Contact Microsoft Office365 Support. Tell them you need to revert your office installation to 9001.2138 and that it doesn't work, tell them the error message you receive verbatim. They should be able to help. If need be they will take remote control and do what needs to be done. Actually the problem seems to be because I was using an office insider build. I left the office insider programme, updated to the production version, then was able to successfully revert to 16.0.9001.2138, which did fix Access. However, it borked Excel add-ins - any installed vba add-ins now get a 'Error in loading DLL' message. As Excel is more important to me I've gone back to the insider build, and Access is broken again. We shouldn't have to play favourites with our Office Apps - they should all work equally as well!

Yes, I saw something about broken add-ins in Excel on their page. I suppose you could try revert back to an even earlier version until they work again., Yes, now that we get these office updates and not application specific updates, I'm seeing a real problem. This whole this is a nightmare.

This whole this is a nightmare. You have to wonder if they're actually bothering to test updates anymore, or just take the attitude that the end users can do the testing...

I don't disagree, i think their QA had been significant reduced, but at the same time there is also the aspect, of their own creation, that there are a lot more variables then there once were. So many OSes, versions of Office, msi, ctr, bitnesses, and so many more elements i doubt there is a way to properly test for them all. And we haven't even gotten into hardware, drivers, ... Yes, i think much of the blame does fall on MS' shoulders, but at the same time you have to somewhat feel bad for them. I know the Address Dev Team doesn't want to release flawed updates. They truly care about the product!!! It's just too bad for everyone involved. I also hope, and believe, that once they identify a new issue like the current one, that they will adjust the testing to avoid the oversight from happening with future updates. I know it's being investigated, but it's tough to figure out because it isn't widespread and only impacting a subset of users. Time will tell.

Does anyone know if uninstalling Office and reverting back to 6.0.9001.2138 REMOVES all Outlook's email accounts information? I Googled but could not find a credible answer so I'm hoping someone who has done this exercise can offer a definitive answer. Thanks

Actually the problem seems to be because I was using an office insider build.
