Cannot start Access today. Get error "Automatic configuration of the current version of Microsoft Access has failed."

Hello

I have been using office 2016 (16.0.9029.2167) for about 8 months. Today Access will not start. I get the error "Automatic configuration of the current version of Microsoft Access has failed. Your database might not function correctly. This can occur if you do not have the necessary permissions to install Microsoft Access on this computer."

  1. Been using Office 2016 for months.
  2. Using it as administrator.
  3. I have changed nothing on the computer deliberately.
  4. When I go into Apps and Features I see that the date against Microsoft Access Pro Plus - en - us is 4th. Mar 2018 which is yesterday in Australia. I did not change/add any features.
  5. I have Windows 10 Pro, Version 1709, OS Build 16299.248

Any help appreciated.

BTW how do I see if an update to Office occurred on 4 Mar 2018?

    Hi Daniel.  I looked at the registry key and it looks a little complicated to me.  Of course, I am not a computer person for fixing problems.  Lately, I feel like I am learning though.  I fixed another problem I was having a couple weeks ago by following the instructions a person on here gave for it. 

    Not sure what he means when he says he replaced the path with the correct one.  So, I am still going over his fix to try and make some sense of it.  

    I am going to take a look at the last comment you made too and see if I can figure it out.  This is incredibly frustrating.   Work starts again tomorrow and I can't get to my customers in Access.  

    Don't feel like I can trust it now as a reliable source to keep my customers in.  Guess I should have had a back up plan and will definitely have from now on - if I ever can get access to work again.  

    Thank you for your help and I am looking into the fixes you suggested.  If you find out anything else, please send a msg.

    Hi,

    I also faced this issue yesterday.... the MS Support Team uninstalled Office 365 and then reinstalled it.... all Products worked perfectly except MS Access... as per the MS Support Team .. I now need to contact the Product Team to resolve this issue.... however today I downloaded the  Microsoft Database Engine 2016 from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=54920 ..... MS Access is working perfectly fine....

    The registry fix is not relevant to the issue when Access has already been working.

    It is for for a fresh install.

    1. I do not have Office14 in the registry.
    2. All occurrances of ACEOLEDB.DLL in the registry point to the correct location of****ACEOLEDB.DLL on the hard drive.

    Thanks ParthoBagchi.  After phone calls and online enquiries.  I tried your solution https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=54920 and it worked.

    Why don't MS come clean and issue an email to all MS Access users re the problem.  Thanks for a workable solution

    The instructions say to remove all previous versions of Access prior to the download.  I can't remove just Access.  Do I need to delete office all together prior to downloading?
