Windows 10 Explorer freezes when selecting word file

Hi,

My brand new laptop with  configuration 16GB RAM,128GB SSD,2TB HDDn  getting stuck/freeze randomly at least one time a day.

Tried following fixes

  1. clean boot

2.Memory error check

  1. Trouble shooter

4.Power troubleshooter

5.Updated all drivers

and many

Any solution to this weird issue?

Like many of us, I've tried the fixes on the support pages at the top of the G**gle search results today, then tried adding 'Word' to the mix and hoorah, I'm not the only one! (*Sorry Bing - your daily pictures are great, though!)

Turning off the 2 ancillary panes completely fixed the problem and I was FINALLY able to delete the word file I'd been trying to drag to the trash for an hour. Thanks to everyone trying to once again provide a fix.

To anyone not sure of how to do this, open File Explorer (or any folder) and click on 'View' at the top. On the left side you'll see the Navigation pane setting and to the right of it Preview pane and Details pane. It seems like you have a choice of which pane to choose, but actually you don't have to have one at all - clicking selects one but clicking it again deselects it. And if you set your view option to 'Details' your contents will be in list view with the details to the right. The only annoyance is a lack of a preview. I guess that beats FREEZING every time one touches a Microsoft Word file.

Sure do miss the Metered Connection fix to block the updates...

    I am having the same issue with my MSI new GS63Stealth

    Microsoft excel and word files selected when using file explorer crash file explorer. I have done all the fixes in the apps section and repair did not help when I did reset the first file opened but every file after crashed the system. I just did sfc scan now and 

    got this message

    indows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.

    For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at

    windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline

    repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.

    PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> I will report back if it is fixed.

    Well again the first file I opened from file explorer went well and then file explorer immediately froze. Looks like windows office has an issue with the newest processors.  Unfortunately I can't afford to uninstall Microsoft office since I use it in my business. Files are opening from within Word. but and office file will not open from file explorer.

    I fixed the problem after calling Windows support and MSI Support with no answers. I uninstalled Microsoft office and reinstalled it. It worked !!

    I had the same issue with my new laptop, am using an Asus ROG Strix GL703-GE, i78750H 16GB RAM 128SSD+1TB HDD. 

    I've tried all of the troubleshooting mentioned on this thread including performing a clean install of Windows 10 Home twice and still experiencing Not Responding when selecting Word file.

    Is this a known issue for new generation (8th gen) Intel processors? I have installed Windows 10 Pro on my old Samsung Ativ 9 Lite notebook and Microsoft Word is running smoothly and not experiencing this issue for several months now. 

    Let me know once there's a fix for this, right now I haven't reinstalled Word yet on my laptop and it's working fine.
