Could you check which version you are running? I am currently on:

    Version 1708 (Build 8431.2056

There seem to be no additional updates available for me and my OFfice 365 subscription is set to the most frequent setting: Every month (Current channel)

    I would not "repair"

Update the applications.  For Office 2016, open any app (e.g., Word), create a new blank doc, click File, click Account, look to the right and click Update Options, the Update Now.

It will take some time and you will see a pop-up working.  This fixed the problem for me.

Find your Office app in apps/features . Click on it to expose the “modify” option, then you’ll ultimately get to the quick repair or online options .. to which I succeeded with the quick, with issue resolved

    UPDATE:

Per Tony above, I just applied all Office 2016 (not 365) manually and the problem seems resolved in all Office Apps.  I recommend everyone apply automatically, or for quicker results, apply manually.
