Hello,

As you can read in the title: some of the images in my onenote sections are gone.

I tried:

  • deleting the cache folder: didn't work
  • updating: didn't work
  • making a new noteblock and copying/replacing my notes to the new noteblock: didn't work
  • opening the notebook online: didn't work, also doesn't show the images

I have an exam coming up and I really can't have this problem right now. Please help.

    Stephanie,

I tried resetting OneNote and the OneNote clipper several times.  I also closed Chrome (and Firefox) and reopened them after making the changes.  I also tried Edge.  No difference.

I tried using an old netbook PC that I haven't started in some time.  Same results so it's probably not a PC setting.  I'm experiencing the same problem on multiple browsers, including Edge, so it's probably not a browser issue.  Two of the capture options work fine, so that suggests that it is not a problem with OneNote.

That seems to leave the clipper.  I checked and I have what appears to be the latest version (3.7.7).  I tried disabling all extensions except the clipper, closing and reopening the browser, and still no change.

I happened to be on MSN.com and checked both Edge and Chrome on that site.  Both worked so that made me think that the clipper may work on some sites and not others.  I checked CNBC, therefore, and found that it worked there, as well.  I can't see any pattern as to why this would be the case unless the technology specific to the site has something to do with it.  This gets back to my point that Microsoft should provide a "standard" site as a test option when people are experiencing problems.  Again, I would appreciate it if you or someone on the support staff would try a capture on the article I originally referenced to determine if the problem is specific to that website.

Thank you for providing the details. For further troubleshooting, we suggest that you try to reset OneNote through the Settings app and check if the issue persists. Resetting the application will remove any settings that you might have changed.

To do so, you may follow the steps below on how to reset an application:

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Go to System > Apps > Apps & features.
    3. Navigate to OneNote, and then click on Advanced options.
    4. Click the Reset button.

Any reply will be highly appreciated.

    Stephanie,

Two other points I meant to include:

    1.  In all cases the pre-capture included the images (see example in my note of February 19th of what I mean by this).  In other words every capture appeared to be correctly processed by the clipper but in the cases noted did not translate to OneNote correctly.

    2.  I checked OneNote online against OneNote desktop and both agreed in all cases.  This suggests that OneNote is syncing with the cloud correctly.

    Stephanie,

I did a systematic check on what is happening when I use the OneNote clipper in Chrome.  Before I began I uninstalled the OneNote clipper from Chrome, closed Chrome, reopened it and reinstalled the Clipper.  I then went to the reference page I mentioned originally and used the clipper for "full page", "article" and "region" captures.  I also used the right click, drop down "click selection to OneNote" option.

In all cases, I refreshed the page and made sure that the page had fully loaded before each clip.  I ran two tests on each option.

    Following is what I found:

    1.  Full Page Option

Worked perfectly in both cases.  All images saved.  Unfortunately this option is usually not useful since it captures a lot of extraneous information.

    2.  Article Option

Did not work in either case.  All images were replaced by the "red x" indicator.  This is the option I would usually use so the fact that it doesn't work is a major problem.

    3.  Selection Option (take from Chrome clipper)

Worked perfectly.  I clipped two different sections covering different images and both were captured correctly.

    4.  Selection Option (Using Right Click and the Drop Down Menu)

In this case I selected the entire article and it did not work either time.  I also tried selecting subsections of the article and that did not work either time.

Is summary, the full page and selection options worked fine.  The article and right click selections options did not work.  Since the Chrome clipper selection option doesn't allow me to scroll and capture the entire article I can't use it to compensate for the problem.  And, since the right click option doesn't work at all I can't use that to compensate for the problem either.

The fact that the clipper works for some options and not others suggests that the problem is not with my set up or hardware.
