"The file 'name of file' may have been changed by another user since you last saved it. In that case, what do you want to do? Save a copy. Overwrite changes."

I've been using Excel 2016/Office 365 and just recently, I started getting this message: "The file 'name of file' may have been changed by another user since you last saved it. In that case, what do you want to do? Save a copy. Overwrite changes."

I'm the only one working in my file. It is stored on the OneDrive for Business, which is the company supported.

How do I keep this message from appearing?  Or WHY is this message appearing?

I saw a similar post for Excel 2013, but no help was actually given.

Hi All,

We've contacted the related team and would like to share the latest updates here:

For Consumer products (e.g. Home,Personal,University), the issue should has been fixed in Office version 8229.2103.

For Enterprise products (e.g. Business Premium, Enterprise), the issue will be fixed very soon in few days, the expected Office version number is 8201.2140.

Thanks,

Jim

Let me know if turning off sync and reenabling works.

When I turned off OneDrive completely (both Personal and SharePoint sync) Excel seemed to work better.  I noticed that my new Office365 now has the AutoSave feature - saving back to SharePoint seems quite slow, but it does work. (Just don't try to quit out of an excel file before the auto save finishes).

When re-synced my Personal and SharePoint sync OneDrive threw up a few errors, all 'Changes could not be merged' on any files that I was playing with prior to turning off the Sync.

Opening the offending files seem to fix the errors and now I seem to have full functionality back - ie can open and save directly from SharePoint via Web, via OneDrive sync and via Excel recents.

Significant BUT however - None of my Excel files are opening as 'Read Only' anymore.  All opening n Edit mode.

I hope there is an update soon. This is ridiculous. It has been ongoing for weeks now.

    Jim,

I'm sorry but that is a very vague answer.  When is soon?  Some people on this thread have been dealing with this for weeks now.  Is the update to OneDrive or office pro plus?
