I've been using Excel 2016/Office 365 and just recently, I started getting this message: "The file 'name of file' may have been changed by another user since you last saved it. In that case, what do you want to do? Save a copy. Overwrite changes."

I'm the only one working in my file. It is stored on the OneDrive for Business, which is the company supported.

How do I keep this message from appearing?  Or WHY is this message appearing?  

I saw a similar post for Excel 2013, but no help was actually given.

We've contacted the related team and would like to share the latest updates here:

For Consumer products (e.g. Home,Personal,University), the issue should has been fixed in Office version 8229.2103.

For Enterprise products (e.g. Business Premium, Enterprise), the issue will be fixed very soon in few days, the expected Office version number is 8201.2140.

    This does not seem to work. We use the MSI installer version of Office 2016 Pro Plus. The most current version on our WSUS server is 16.0.4549.1000. Any recommendations?

    @Jason, Daniel,

    Sorry I forgot to emphasize that this only applies to First release Current/Current/First release Deferred channel as Felix mentioned above:

    "If you are in the Current Channel or the First Release for Deferred Channel, you can let the users upgrade the Office to the latest version directly."

    For Deferred channel, the updates is not available at this moment. Please either wait for the update, or switch to other channels (see this article).

    Hi Daniel,

    I had a similar issue.

    In our organisation all staff are on the main stream release (defered channel), with only IT on First Release.

    To fix the 5 users having this issue I had to access office365 admin and upgrade their subscription to First Release,

    Settings>Organisation Profile>Release Prefrences

    Then force an update on their machines.

    Luckily I only had to deal with 5 people, not 200.

    Hello Jim,

    Is there a fixed for the deferred click to run version?... we are having the same issue across our network

    The machines that are affected are running the following SW:

    Windows 7& 0

    Office 2016 c2r deferred v1701.7766.2092*

    ODFB v17.3.6943.0625

    * we control office updates and we currently testing Office 2016 c2r Version 1701 (Build 7766.2099).
