Cursor disappears (only) over the italic texts (on PC)

The problem occurs under any front and any zoom I am using. 

I just updated Office 365 to the latest version (1701) before posting this question and the problem still remains

    As mysteriously as the problem appeared it has disappeared from my laptop, but not my desktop... any ideas on how to tell what's different?

    Do both computers have the same version of Office?

    Have any updates been installed recently? Drivers? Office? Et cetera... You can look in Windows Update, in Device Manager, and possibly also in the Programs and Features applet in Control Panel.

    Both laptops have the same Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016, with the latest updates. I don't recall the older laptop had this problem until recently so it could be the updates. Nothing else has changed.

    One more data point, I tried a Surface book which has both HD 520 and dGPU. The problem exists only when intel HD 520 is used. When I force the system to use nvdiai GPU (after reboot), the cursor works fine in Word 2016. In fact the mouse pointer (arrow) looks totally

    different in Word (outside the italic region) between 520 and dGPU.

    Thanks for testing this. It appears to be a driver issue, after all.
