Cursor disappears (only) over the italic texts (on PC)

Not yet. I feel it won't be...

Having the same problem. Makes it VERY difficult to edit bibliographies when you cannot see where you are selecting italicized text. I've done all of the updates suggested throughout this thread to both Microsoft products and other drivers. It still persists. How can this still be an issue with this many complaints?!

I have solved my problem.  Maybe it can help others. YMMV.

I had the same problems.  I-beam disappears over italics in Word or Outlook email editing.  Mouse pointer also tiny/twisted in left margins and over hyperlinks.  Problem came and went.

After about 10 reboots, I discovered it was:

• Not wifi/wired related
• Not VPN/local-network related
• Not power/battery related
• Not docked/undocked (Targus USB dock) related

For me the problem ONLY occurs if I boot with the laptop lid closed. My normal pattern is to plug in power, plug in USB dock, open the laptop to push power button, and then immediately close the laptop lid (my lid-close is set to "do nothing"). If I do that... I get the issue, every time.

**If I keep the laptop open at least long enough to see the Win10 clock/background screen, there is no issue.**I can close the lid at that point (or any point after that) and all is well.

I have a HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G3.  My guess is some sort of Video/BIOS bug.  For me, easy enough to keep the lid open a moment to avoid the issue.

is there any registry key that changes the appearance of the cursor when it is over an italic text in word? maybe turning off this feature we can solve this problem

Your MS Word is working fine, although the pointer in italics is almost invisible, c´est la vie with word as it is now.

However, the issue here is that Word uses its own pointer when you are on the page, so none of the changes that you make in the pointer selection in windows changes the cursor in Word, so it is useless to do this, as so many people on line ineffectually advise online.

You can see this if you move the mouse pointer on and off the page in Word you can see how the pointer changes, outside the page to whatever selection you made for windows, to a small white arrow cursor on the page.

The only thing that worked for me,  just to mitigate but not solve the problem, is to adjust the blink rate of the cursor in Ease of Access - Keyboard (not mouse) section; just play with the blinking rate from none to fast to see which one is better for you, for me it was better to adjust to None.

Also, the problem with the pointer/cursor was worse only when the scale and layout for apps in windows was set to 100% (I like it this way - smaller but neater). If I setup the scale 10 150%, when fitting the word page into 100% or so, the pointer/cursor on the page over the italicized text was much more visible.

I guess Microsoft should correct this by adjusting the pointer that MS Word and Excel use when on the page.
