The problem occurs under any front and any zoom I am using.
I just updated Office 365 to the latest version (1701) before posting this question and the problem still remains

Temp fix:
I have two Lenovo thinkpad with similar specs. The slightly older X1 yoga has this problem but not the newer X1 carbon. Very strange.
The video driver explanation is barking up the wrong tree. One is Nvidia (it's a gaming PC that I built), the other is Intel (Lenovo Laptop). This problem came about during some Office Update. If I could, I'd go back and install one after the other until the problem cropped up. My boss is having the same issue. We have Office 365 and he is using a Surface laptop. The cursor only disappears in the italic type
I indeed have updated!
The problem remains.
