How to move onenote sections back to top of notebook?

I have MS Office 2019. Tabs are back at the top. Power to the people LOL! Someone listened.

While I agree that the hierarchy structure should exist in all apps and all organizational user interface models, it should only be implemented if it can be set both horizontally and vertically based on user preference setting and here is why…

In meetings, not many users can have 2 monitors present. Most meeting rooms don’t have large display screen either.

It is not possible on a laptop to view a presentation or collaboration showing a spreadsheet or pdf, large enough to read clearly while having onenote open at the same time and having enough room to not continuously shrink/hide and grow/I hide the tabs on the left and still view and edit notes effectively. Especially if you need to switch between 2 or more notes to reference as you listen and edit.

The amount of housekeeping tasks require is simple hundreds or more extra clicks within an 30-45 min meeting.

This problem renders the use of onenote impractical at best compared to pen and paper or always having two screens as a meeting participant.

Now if you have to present to a larger screen at the same time it’s even worse because there is even more to coordinate.

If you happen to click or drag the wrong thing your now having to reset all the open, referenced items just to get back to where you were! This makes using onenote no longer practical for me to use.

I have talked to hundreds of former users of onenote at user various conferences in the past 3-5 years that had the same experience.

Some gave up! A few actually bought Heavy 2nd screen Addon for there laptops and larger backpacks to handle the size. Some of that group actually switched to rolling backpacks and couldn’t have the space to use a double screen on the conf room table in crowded meetings.

Your decision making with app updates, in this case seems to looks at only a common use scenario but not a complicated common use scenario’s which a large compliment of your users do experience daily.

We get off of paper, go digital for capturing info and after we are hooked on these efficiencies you screw up these tools and make our lives a living hell to try to compensate for these…”updates”.

The fact is I can no longer attend meetings in person without printed reference material and a pen and paper and the detailed 3 page agenda, my calendar for the next month in weekly form, and other project documents as well, printed so I can at a glance, see all this stuff and the presentation while taking notes, schedualing multiple follow ups while people wait and hope I don’t miss any critical details. It’s a lot to juggle on a laptop screen when you have to keep moving the tabs out of the way because you need the real estate for something else.

I’m not alone in the kinds of demands I have to respond to as a single meeting can generate a dozen follow ups or more of calls meetings and actions all due yesterday.

I used to be able to do all that on one screen. Can’t any more because of the overhead show, hide because of the vertical only tabs!

Fix it please!!!

I have tried several other tools yet none integrate as well with all my other apps based on O365.

So I always take pen and paper.

I have spent hundreds of hours looking solutions in the past few years.

Back dating my onenote to 2016 version is also no longer a supported option in the past 2 companies I have worked for.

Life is 10x more complicated than your simplistic use cases for most people as everyone must multitask at a faster and faster rate just to keep up!

I would be happy to dedicate more time to a valid solution or a different way to work if that were possible and practical but two or 3 extra clicks about 30 times in the average short meeting is causing me to be less effective. I could lose my job as a result. All because of this one thing.

Stop moving and changing you apps continuously so the world doesn’t have to spend time digging into what is now a feature that is either hidden, missing!

Consistency in a user interface is what make it efficient for its user base! Once learned it’s muscle memory and a well traveled neural pathway in our brains.

Changes disrupts all of that and destroys effectiveness, cause frustration and more and that is the one thing MS has messed up in some cases.

trust me, if you fix this so that it works with both horizontal or vertical with higher archival structure on both, nobody will complain and everybody will be able to work the way the enjoy.

Stop taking away features and stop moving then. Instead keep them in place and have another control elsewhere too.

As useful as your software can be everyone everywhere has experienced this frustration with MS products.

Get out of your own way and gain even more market share! Make a commitment to your fans so they can trust and count on your work to be consistent and vercitle.

I’m seriously considering switching to Linux full time just because I can’t find a windows or mac based solution to what ms screwed up on onenote.

Me too. The 2016 version still works well. Just can't get my head around who came up with the idea of side tabs. I also don't understand why no one from microsoft will address the feedback about this.
