MS Office Jumping Shaking jogging while scrolling or changing panes on external monitor

Hi All, 

Im running W10 with 365 office pro 

lenovo X1 Carbon notebook

when editing word documents on an external monitor, the document tends to jump around horizontally while scrolling or editing 

its a very quick, momentary motion, but enough that it is quite nauseating to look at for extended periods of time. 

interesting thing is,  i only see this behaviour while the document is on the external monitor, not when it is on the laptop monitor 

is it some interaction between word and the video driver? 

i only see this on MS word

there is a potentially related phenomena with excel where the excel pane flickers / freezes until the monitor is unplugged or excel rebooted that occurs when dragging a pane between monitors. 

any thoughts would be

    For the lazy:

    Control panel > System and security > System > Advanced system settings (in upper-left side) > Advanced tab > Settings in Performance box > Visual effects: Here disable Animate controls and elements inside windows (I disabled all three check boxes with the word Animate).

    "I simply selected and applied the setting 'Adjust for Best Performance". It cleared all setting boxes, including the 'animation' box, and the outlook windows now move by the mouse cursor in a stable manner."

    Had the same issue where my word document would shake when I was on an external monitor through a laptop expansion dock (HP Thunderbolt), after searching around and finding this fix for turning off animated controls the problem is fixed.

    Control panel > System and security > System > Advanced system settings (in upper-left side) > Advanced tab > Settings in Performance box > Visual effects:

    Here please disable Animate controls and elements inside windows

    I have the same issue, which seems to happen after switching from external monitor to laptop only. Closing all opened Word documents and then reopening Word and selecting Blank document seems to reset/fix the issue. After this you can open your other documents and the shaking is gone.

    Reading through most of these replies, I've seen a couple of answers. one is Control panel > System and security > System > Advanced system settings (in upper-left side) > Advanced tab > Settings in Performance box > Visual effects:

    Another answer was to go into safe mode ... um, that is simply too much work.

    In my scenario, I have three monitors (Desktop, not laptop). The Primary monitor is set to 4k, and the other two are at their native 1900x1080. The point here is that the primary monitor is set to a higher resolution different than the other two. 

    Going back to the issue. Do you experience this on any monitor other than the primary monitor? Are they of the same resolution? 

    My work around is, because I cannot do the above steps due to a security lockout by my security team, to open up the Word document on a monitor that is not the primary monitor. At which point, I do not get the "jiggly" document when scrolling. I can then move the document between all screens and it scrolls just fine. If I open up Word on the primary monitor and move the document on a secondary one, then I do get the "jiggly" screen. 

    This also works on my Laptop with two external monitor scenarios. 

    Like everyone else, this recently started happening after the most recent update. I believe it might have something to do with the graphics performance and switching display modes, especially if you are in enhanced display mode where dynamic sizing of objects on a higher resolution display, say 4k, appears as normal. When moving to the smaller display, Windows, Word in this case, is attempting to dynamically size the display to match the new, different monitor settings. 

    I'm sure this is also reflective of the different monitor types and drivers. 

    Perhaps someone can confirm this?
