Error Code: 0xE0000007 in OneNote

I have one section of one notebook in OneNote that keeps coming up with Couldn't Sync and showing the Error Code: 0xE0000007. I have gone through all the steps shown online:

Open the OneNote online, then open the Notebook section and use 'Open in OneNote' to open it on my desktop. Then try to sync - failed

Copy (not Move) all of the notes in the affected section to a newly minted section, delete the original section and sync the new one - failed

So I tried making some minor changes in the section, re-synced, got the 'Couldn't Sync' error, but when I check back online all of the changes I made have synced. Why am I getting this error?

Hello --

We have posted a self-help article that may help you solve this problem.  It is titled "Resolve the 0xE0000007 error ("We ran into a problem syncing your notebook") in OneNote".  Here is the link to the article.

    Hi Jim,

    This is a temporary workaround as the issue is affecting syncing, we feel it's best to share this until we get more information from the related team.

    There should be no issues with this setup and AutoUpdate will check for each application's updates separately.

    @All,

    Currently from what we gather, this issue is affecting personal OneDrive users and it seems to also be happening on iPads. Please subscribe to this thread - we will keep you guys updated with any new information.

    @Marina,

    If you're getting the exact same error and you're using personal OneDrive, hang on tight - we will share more updates once we have more information. For now, if the workaround doesn't work, please use OneNote Online to take notes to make sure it is saved to the cloud.

    Regards,

    Sheen

    "Currently from what we gather, this issue is affecting personal OneDrive users and it seems to also be happening on iPads. "

    Sheen,

    For me, I have never had a sync error on either of my IOS devices (iPad or iPhone), it has only been on my macbook.  And only with 15.38.

    I also want to restate that I believe the errors are false positives as I could never see any true syncing errors.  All chances to notebooks were universal.

    Hello Sheen,

    Just to clarify:

    My issues started as sync issues on the MacBook which would be fixed by simple closing and opening the notes or signing out. Then it became necessary to copy the notes and delete the unsyncing ones. Then I had ended up copying all my Pages and forming a new notebook. The new issue was a "False Positive" as the other user described. Stupidly, I tried to fix this by reverting to 15.37 lol. Which lead me to losing the notebook. Thankfully I had duplicated the entire notebook before trying to fix. It seemed that even though 15.37 was free from the issue, my notebook was so irreparably damaged that I had to delete it (which on its own took forever)

    Now Im on 15.37 with a fresh copy of the notebook and the issue is finally gone.

    On my iPad thought...the sync issues are fixed. However, my notes must be re downloaded multiple times as One note sometimes goes from 3Gb (including my notes size) to 40GB! And I can tell when it does this as the iPad screen starts to lag and cut out. This is quite an issue now.

    Thanks for keeping us updated!

    Edit: Yes I do have this on my personal One Note drive

    @ Sky - Is this recommended for all users who experience this error?

    I can see that this would work for users who installed OneNote from the Apple App store, but for those who installed OneNote with Microsoft Office, are there any potential problems having OneNote being a version that's different from the rest of the Office install? Will any crashes occur? Will AutoUpdate know what to do for the next update?

    Hi Jim,

      I also posted this on page 4 in the other thread:

    When AutoUpdate runs it prompts you to update just OneNote to 15.38 because the rest of the Office apps are already at 15.38.

    You could certainly remove all of the 15.38 Office Apps and downgrade all of them to 15.37 using a 15.37 Office package the Update history page.  https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Update-history-for-Office-2016-for-Mac-700cab62-0d67-4f23-947b-3686cb1a8eb7

    Also if you do downgrade, Microsoft AutoUpdate should not be set to "Automatically Download and Install".  Manually Check or Automatically Check are required so that OneNote stays at version 15.37.
