Error Code: 0xE0000007 in OneNote

Good point for Outlook users.  I personally do not use Outlook on my Mac so I had not thought of that.  Wouldn't the Outlook profile and data be stored somewhere else in the user's home directory though?

When I uninstalled OneNote by moving the app to the trash and installed OneNote 15.37; when I opened OneNote all of my settings (account info) and cached notebooks were still intact.

If Microsoft AutoUpdate is set to either Manually Check or Automatically Check when AU runs you'll see OneNote 15.38 today which you'll have it ignore, or when 15.39 or whatever newer version is released you should see it at that time.

I am hesitant to suggest uninstalling the whole suite and reverting to 15.37 if you use Outlook. Doing so is likely to render your profile useless.

I prefer to go with your suggestion to turn AutoUpdate off and run with the mixed combination. The only problem with that is, when the fix comes out, you won't automatically get it or know about it. Or leave AutoUpdate on and restore the previous build of OneNote whenever AutoUpdate decides to trash the previous version.

Microsoft's completely remove page doesn't make it clear enough, in my opinion, that if you follow the instructions you lose all the userdata for Outlook.

Backreving OneNote (and deleting OneNote references from my ./Library/Containers directory) did nothing to help they sync errors. Can't open a password protected section (but only a top-level password protected section, lower sections are fine) - even after closing the notebook and opening from the web (I get a "We couldn't open that location. It might not exist or you might not have permission to open it." in OneNote trying to follow the "open in OneNote" link), just like in the 15.38.

For me this means that 15.37 is NOT production code.

@ Sky - Is this recommended for all users who experience this error?

I can see that this would work for users who installed OneNote from the Apple App store, but for those who installed OneNote with Microsoft Office, are there any potential problems having OneNote being a version that's different from the rest of the Office install? Will any crashes occur? Will AutoUpdate know what to do for the next update?

  I also posted this on page 4 in the other thread:

When AutoUpdate runs it prompts you to update just OneNote to 15.38 because the rest of the Office apps are already at 15.38.

You could certainly remove all of the 15.38 Office Apps and downgrade all of them to 15.37 using a 15.37 Office package the Update history page.  https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Update-history-for-Office-2016-for-Mac-700cab62-0d67-4f23-947b-3686cb1a8eb7

Also if you do downgrade, Microsoft AutoUpdate should not be set to "Automatically Download and Install".  Manually Check or Automatically Check are required so that OneNote stays at version 15.37.
