Cannot print from Publisher

Since the last Microsoft update in December 2017/January 2018 timeframe, I can no longer print a Publisher (2007) document.  Message received is waiting on printer to respond. All other Microsoft applications work fine.  I use Publisher in my work so really need to resolve this issue.

I spent over an hour with Microsoft support online chat and they couldn’t fix it.  I think it’s their way of making us upgrade to the latest version. But the mystery remains why can we print from Word, Excel,  etc and not publisher. Come on Microsoft give us an answer please.

Thanks to AbolicalDi for your response to my inquiry.  It seems as though Microsoft is keeping us in the dark about how to handle this.  I checked with an IT tech who said the problem had to do with some defective chip that Microsoft knew about for several years and only just now attempted a patch to remedy the defective chip.  What happened is they messed us up.  This tech said it would be cheaper to purchase a new computer than to try to repair the problem.  Can you believe that!?  Microsoft...you owe us an explanation and a fix to our problem!

This is the first if have heard of this. Microsoft's customer support is certainly lacking.   A notification from Microsoft about non-support of Office 2007 would have been appreciated by many of us.   Thank you AbolicalDi for your information!

Just because MSFT no longer 'supports' Office 2007 does NOT mean that you have to 'upgrade to latest Office pack'. Whether you find a permanent fix for the printing problem for Publisher does not mean you cannot continue to use Publisher 2007. You can always use the workaround of converting the Publisher file to a PDF and then printing the PDF file. IMHO that is far better than the expense and downgrading to Publisher 2016.

I have been using Publisher since Pub 97. In fact I still have Pub 2000, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013 installed. As of Publisher 2010, MSFT started downgrading and stripping functionality from Publisher with each version. IMHO Publisher 2016 is the most buggy and the worst version of them all.

There are several ways of converting your Pub file to a PDF. The Office 2007 PDF add-in or possibly the *Win10 PDF printer driver*are two options you may already have. Personally I moved away from MSFT PDF tools years ago and installed the freebie PrimoPDF. It is a more functional and dependable tool IMHO. You can use it with any program from which you can print; it allows you to append an existing PDF file which you cannot do with any MSFT PDF tool; and best of all it appears to be immune to the Office patches that tend to break things in an effort to fix other things. If you set primopdf to automatically open your PDF after converting it, then it is just one more step to print directly to your chosen printer from your PDF reader.

If you decide to try PrimoPDF then choose the custom install and opt out of any toolbars or junkware that is often bundled with freeware.

Abandon Publisher 2007 and spend the money to move to the inferior Publisher 2016 if you want, but don't say that you have to do this. There is an option.
