OneNote - All Notebooks Suddenly Empty

My world heavily linked into this application and nine notebooks were suddenly emptied off all their content - right in front of my eyes.  All I did was start it up, and was about to type when it all just went away and I got this message:

"There are no sections open in this notebook or section group

Click here to create a new section**"**

Now I did go to backup - but it's not restoring my notebooks the way they were.

These books are also located in OneDrive, but I can't bring them in.

I would like to know why this happened.

It appears that Microsoft OneNote is unstable and nobody has any real answers.

This concerns Office 2010.

Can someone please help.

Hi everyone - some update.

I believe this issue was resolved last Friday, 08/19. Please check Denise's answer here, and let us know if it is fixed with your latest update. To get the update immediately, open OneNote and click  File> Account > Update Options > Update Now.

    I have the same problem. I am using OneNote on both Mac and PC.

    This morning, on the PC only, all notebooks that reside on the OneDrive suddendly showed up empty.

    The content is still there on the OneDrive, however; because on the Mac I can still display it just fine.

    Locally stored notebooks on PC and Mac are also still fine.

    So, the issue seems to be related to the latest PC update failing to properly load OneDrive notebooks.

    Same here.  I'm able to view them online and also using the mobile app on my iPhone, however since a lot of the links I have in my notes are to files on my companies network, these no longer work through the online interface.

    Sorry to hear that. I'm using OneNote 2016 and it restored the data for me.

    This has happened before and MS eventually sent out an update fix and offered the workaround I mentioned in the meantime.

    Nope.. I tried closing and reopening one of my notebooks and the data did not show back up.
