OneNote - All Notebooks Suddenly Empty

My world heavily linked into this application and nine notebooks were suddenly emptied off all their content - right in front of my eyes.  All I did was start it up, and was about to type when it all just went away and I got this message:

"There are no sections open in this notebook or section group

Click here to create a new section**"**

Now I did go to backup - but it's not restoring my notebooks the way they were.

These books are also located in OneDrive, but I can't bring them in.

I would like to know why this happened.

It appears that Microsoft OneNote is unstable and nobody has any real answers.

This concerns Office 2010.

Can someone please help.

Hi everyone - some update.

I believe this issue was resolved last Friday, 08/19. Please check Denise's answer here, and let us know if it is fixed with your latest update. To get the update immediately, open OneNote and click  File> Account > Update Options > Update Now.

If you're curious to learn more on the issue, check out this postmade by OneNote Program Manager Grant in the Reddit community.

If you're not seeing the fix, do respond and let us know.

Best,

Noyonima

I'm trying to find this update, so I can see whether it fixes the problem for me, and I get no sign of it. I'm running OneNote 2010 on Windows 7 SP1.

When I open OneNote, there is no File > Account open.

When I choose File > Help > Check for update, a web page tells me to use Windows update

When I use Windows Update, this update doesn't appear.

    Ideas?

    Tamar

    Hi all --

thank you for bringing this important issue to our attention. The OneNote team takes data loss issues very seriously. A bug has been logged and we are investigating the root cause.

Most of you have confirmed a recent update might be the culprit - can you confirm what version/build of OneNote 2010 you're using? What version of Windows are you on?

Thanks for your patience as we look into this.

I had the same problem. Closing the notebook and re-opening from the web didn't help.

I did this to fix it (Windows 10):

    • In PC Settings - Windows Update - Advanced Options -> Check "Give me updates for other Microsoft products..."
    • Check for updates
    • After it installs bunch of MS Office updates restart the computer.
    • Open Onenote.
    • The notes should be back (synchronizing).

If not, try to open them from the web again.

    Hope this helps someone.
