Excel 2016 Mac Problem Bug Linking Cells Between Worksheets

Hi Bradr2720,

We have tested this on our side, but we couldn't reproduce the issue now. To move forward, please provide the following information for our analysis:

1.Your OS version

2.Usea safe mode and check if the random issue reoccurs.

3.Create a new workbook in local including some worksheets and see if the issue occurs.

4.Perform the following steps again and record a video till the issue happens for our check.

a. Select the Income Worksheet

b. Select cell C14 (destination/result cell)

c. Enter "="

d. Select "BUS-EXPENSES" Worksheet Tab

f.  Select Cell G12 that has the info you want to appear on Income Worksheet C14  -> click Enter till the issue happnes.

Note: after you click the enter key, the right symptom is that the cursor will be in C15 of the Income Worksheet.

1.Does the issue happen when lining the cell in a worksheet of the same workbook?

2.Do you experience the same behavior " the formula/value will be in a not correct cell randomly after performing steps a~f "? If not, can you describe more details?

2.Try steps a~f mentioned above and let us know the result happened on your side.

If you'd like to link the cell in Worksheet2 from worksheet1, here are the steps:

1.Go to Worksheet2 ->  select any cell, such as B2 -> type "="

2.Go to Worksheet1-> select any cell, such as A1 -> click enter

3.Now, the cursor should be in B3 by default. If you click B2, you will find the Formula= worksheet1!A1

In addition, Bradr2720 are talking the formula/value will be in a not correct cell randomly after performing steps a~f mentioned above. If you are not in this situation, please post a new thread and we will keep assisting you from there

The problems faced in the use of "=" for cell linking is only when editing excel files created using Office 2011.

When a new file is opened in Office 2016 this problem is NOT FACED. However when a NEW FILE is OPENED in Office 2016 and the cells from a Worksheet created with Office 2011 is copied onto it, this "=" linking problem is happening.

Another problem notice is that when a new sheet is added to a "2011" created file using the "+" symbol, it creates it in the 2nd position and not in the last position as is normally expected. Again this is happening in some files (probably created with Office 2011 or older) and is random.

Formula/value will display in a random cell after linking cells between worksheets

Repro steps:

a. In a workbook, select the Worksheet1

b. Select a cell, such as C14 (destination/result cell)

c. Enter "="

d. Select Worksheet 2

f. Select a Cell, such as G12 that has the info you want to appear on Worksheet1 cell C14 -> click Enter -> nothing happens in the cell on Worksheet 1. Yet the formula appears on a random cell in Worksheet 2.

Environment:

Mac OS 10.12.3/10.12.4.  Office version 15.32(170309), 15.33(170403).

To further look into this issue on your side, please provide the following information:

1.On the Excel menu, click Preferences -> Under Formulas and Lists, click Calculation and then capture a screenshot of the calculation settings.

2.Your regional and language settings?

3.Does the reference work if you type it into a cell directly (instead of using semi-select)?

4.Please provide the Mac OS version and Excel version if you don't provide them before

Note: Please create a totally new Excel workbook using Excel 2016 when you di a test.
