Excel 2016 Mac Problem Bug Linking Cells Between Worksheets

I tried this but then it just showed the linked formula in the cell as the result vs. the number. 

Below is a run down of what I am doing and experiencing:

1. Select Income Worksheet
2. Select cell C14 (destination/result cell)
3. Enter "=" 
4. Select "BUS-EXPENSES" Worksheet Tab
5. Select Cell G12 that has the info I want to appear on Income Worksheet C14 --- when I do it selects it, but it also then enters the formula (='BUS-EXPENSES'!G12) in cell C14 of BUS-EXPENSES Worksheet (same sheet) and the result on cell I13 on BUS-EXPENSES Worksheet (same worksheet) and this is where the problem starts
6. I then select the "Income" worksheet and there is nothing in cell C14 where i originally entered "=" and the cell below it is now selected

Now the thing is that I've tried this with different cells, some that are sums and some that are just numbers and it still happens. Also, the outcome is random - sometimes its like I've described above, sometimes it just shows the formula in a random cell and no result anywhere and the cells are always random. I have been working with this worksheet for a year for 2016 and no problems at all. Then I resaved it as 2017 and deleted some of the 2016 numbers and started copying over some of the 2017 numbers and then this started happening. 

Here is the version of Office, etc.: Office 2016 for Mac - v.15.32

Please Change the step 6 to : click “Enter” **** to see the result.****(To explain this, the step 5 is a normal behavior to let you see the formula. So when you see the formula in BUS-EXPENSES worksheet, do not click back to Income worksheet, please directly press “Enter” in BUS-EXPENSES to tell Excel that you have finish the formula).

If the issue persists, please give a screenshot about the version number. Because v.15.32 also has different updates packages. You can click Excel>about Excel to check the version number. For example 15.32 (170208).

Thank you so much for replying to this as is been incredibly frustrating. I have actually been doing what you said - after I click on the cell that has the info I want to link, I then click enter. At that point random stuff happens:

1. I just tried it now and it worked, but then I tried it again and
2. Nothing appeared in the original cell on Income sheet, but the value I was trying to link to appeared on a random cell "D46" in the BUS-EXPENSES sheet and when I click on that cell - it shows the formula "='BUSINESS EXPENSES'!G26" which was supposed to go on the cell in the INCOME sheet. This is totally random - each time the result appears in a different cell. Sometimes the formula appears and not the result. Sometimes the formula appears in the cell I was trying to link to. Its like there is some kind of strange bug that is messing with this. 

**NOTE: I've tried uninstalling entire office suite and reinstalling it and same thing happens. I've also tried rebuilding the entire spreadsheet in a new document and at first it is working fine, but then after about an hour or so, the same thing starts to happen. Other strange stuff happens too, like the cell above or below what I am trying to select being selected, etc. Its a very challenging experience.

I've updated with the latest office 365 pack (last week) and the same problem has suddenly happened.

I did uninstall/install excel right now, and have still the same issue.

when I want to insert an external value coming from another sheet from another excel file, and especially when there are pivot table in the sheet (even) the value which is reported is wrong, and is coming from the initial sheet itself.

It sounds clearly like a bug implemented in the latest update.

please advise when a patch will be provided.
