Excel 2016 Mac Problem Bug Linking Cells Between Worksheets

I have multiple worksheets in my excel document. I am trying to link data from a cell on worksheet 2 to a cell on worksheet 1. I enter "=" in the cell on Worksheet 1 and then click on Worksheet 2 and go to the cell that I want to reference/link. When I click on it, nothing happens in the cell on Worksheet 1. Yet the formula appears on a random cell in Worksheet 2. I have had no problem doing this before and the same workbook/document has multiple inter-sheet links from previous work I have done on it. All of a sudden this problem started happening today. Please help me figure this out. Very frustrating. Thank you. Brad.

Issue description:

The formula/value will be in a random cell after linking cells between worksheets when you store the workbooks in Dropbox.

More information:

Original, we have identified the issue will disappear when we go to the Dropbox settings and set the Dropbox badge to "Never show"..

Now, the issue should have gone away. It seems that the issue has been fixed by Dropbox in their latest release. For more information, refer to:

I just went through all 8 steps. The issue that was occurring in previous existing workbooks is not occurring in the scenario that you describe here.

Seems to have worked for me. I even did a VLOOKUP table and it worked.

Hi All - thanks for reporting this issue and for all the information provided already. It would be great to get a bit more information from everyone as we try to identify the root cause of the issue.

Please try the following so we can understand the issue better:
1. Quit Excel and re-launch it.
2. Create a new blank workbook.
3. Type a few values into some cells. Take note of which cell is selected/active before the next step.
4. Click on Sheet2 (create it if you need to).
5. Type = into cell A1.
6. Click back to Sheet1, and click on a cell that contains a value. Notice whether the cell that was active in step 3 becomes highlighted as if it's the active cell.
7. Press Return to commit the formula.
8. If the formula shows up in Sheet2!A1, then please try the same steps but start with one of the new workbook templates rather than a blank workbook.
Let us know if the issue happens in the brand new workbook, or in the template workbook. This will help us to understand whether the problem is related to something in existing files or something with the application environment.

I presume it's related, but I've also noted a ton more crashes with Excel since the last update; especially when copying-and-pasting.
