Excel 2016 Mac Problem Bug Linking Cells Between Worksheets

I have multiple worksheets in my excel document. I am trying to link data from a cell on worksheet 2 to a cell on worksheet 1. I enter "=" in the cell on Worksheet 1 and then click on Worksheet 2 and go to the cell that I want to reference/link. When I click on it, nothing happens in the cell on Worksheet 1. Yet the formula appears on a random cell in Worksheet 2. I have had no problem doing this before and the same workbook/document has multiple inter-sheet links from previous work I have done on it. All of a sudden this problem started happening today. Please help me figure this out. Very frustrating. Thank you. Brad.

I’d like to make a summary about this case, so other community members who come across this thread will easily find the useful information:

Issue description:

The formula/value will be in a random cell after linking cells between worksheets when you store the workbooks in Dropbox.

More information:

Original, we have identified the issue will disappear when we go to the Dropbox settings and set the Dropbox badge to "Never show"..

Now, the issue should have gone away. It seems that the issue has been fixed by Dropbox in their latest release. For more information, refer to:

    I don't think this question is about hyperlinks. I think it is about linked cell forumulas. I think this was a problem in an old build of Excel and that if you install updates the problem will most likely go away.

    Make sure your Mac has a working internet connection before checking for updates. Install Mac OS X updates followed by Office updates.

    Install Mac OS X updates first:

    To get Mac OS updates, go to the App store on your dock, and then click the Updates button to reveal available updates.

    Then Install Office Updates

    To get the update:

    1. Open any Office application:
    2. Make sure your Mac has a working internet connection
    3. Go to the Help menu and choose Check for Updates
    4. Let AutoUpdate check for and install updates
    5. Restart your Mac

    Hi Brad,

    Please confirm if you have tried this. If no, try this to see the outcome.

    a. Click on the cell in Sheet1.

    b. Click Insert>Hyperlink>Document>type the cell you want to link in Sheet2.

     

    Meanwhile, provide us with the following.

    a. The detailed reproducing steps of the issue you are experiencing.

    b. Some screenshots related to the symptom of the issue.

    c. A full screenshot showing the version information of Excel 2016 for Mac via File>Account.
