How do I turn off READ ONLY permanently???

I'm sick of office locking my files to Read Only.

I have files I use all the time in my one drive folder, I'll open one and word decides it is Read Only and to make a change I need to save it as a new name.

I email a file to my wife to read, she makes changes and emails it back...now its Read Only.

How do disable this frustrating crap interfering with my workflow?  It's making me crazy!!!

    Well Stefan, I did all that re-sync'd all my files, took hours and blew my internet account out, so now I'm in for excess charges...and first file I open READ ONLY.

    All I want to do is make it so no file will ever be READ ONLY, but it seems Microsoft thinks it owns the files, not me.

    I think Eat My Hat has the answer....move all the files to Google Drive and dump One Drive...it's One Drive and Microsoft that is the problem!

    Really, why can't we have a tick box:

    "I'm an adult, I don't need Microsoft to baby sit me, I can make my own decisions. Give me full access to all the documents and settings on my PC"

    Thanks Doug,

    I've been trying to track down the cause of this for a long time.  I made the Trust Centre changes months ago in word and excel.

    I don't use Outlook, I use Thunderbird, so it has no "Trust Centre"

    Here is what Word looks like:

    I tried this a dozen times and different ways. It still defaults to Read Only every time I open a document the next time. This is ridiculous.

    I've just had an automated email from Big Brother asking me if I can close this as "Resolved"

    ...I cannot, it is not resolved.  I wanted to prevent Office deciding to open files as Read Only....and that has not been answered.  Anytime a file is sent by email Big Brother Microsoft opens it as Read Only.  I want to get control over my PC and my Files and how they open and Big Brother won't let me.
