Hi everyone,

Some news - a fix for this issue has been released with update 16.0.7466.2038 or later for OneNote 2016 for Windows desktop. To download the update right away, open any Office app and click File > Account > Update Options >

Update Now.

If you can confirm the updated resolved the issue for you by replying back to this thread, it would be very helpful for the Office team and everyone here.

We appreciate your help.

Regards,

Noyonima

Hi everyone,

OneNote team had finished the investigation of this issue. There will be a updated version of OneNote 2016 that contains solution to this. Also, we have published an article documenting  way to work around the problem, should you experience it: https://support.office.com/article/d1e0568b-19f0-4fe7-adb0-923ed60a3587

Thank you for using OneNote and sorry for the trouble this issue is causing.

    Hi

I’m Chris from the OneNote team.  I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing this.  Thanks for bringing this to our attention.  I need some further information in order to understand the issue you are experiencing

    1. What build version of OneNote 2O16 are you using?

    1. What is the location of the quick notes pointing to? Is it on OneDrive, SharePoint, or local notebook?
    2. If it is on cloud (OneDrive or SharePoint), what is the rough size of the quick notes section? Does it contain large embeded files, videos, images, etc.?

    Thank you

    Chris

Following the above, I found out that Quick Notes only loads when it points at a section within a closed notebook. If you reopen that notebook Quick Notes gets stuck after syncing, as shown on Jeremy007's screen capture . To workaround it, I moved the Quick Notes's section to a new Notebook and then I closed it. It works although I don't think this is the way it should work. I have tried both Office's quick repair and online repair but it doesn't make any difference. I wonder what is causing this strange behaviour. It doesn't matter whether the notebooks are stored locally or in Onedrive so it's not a syncing problem. What about Registry?

Thank you this fixed it for me. What I did to get around the fact that OneNote won't sync a closed Notebook to Onedrive, was when I first created the new Notebook instead of selecting the "OneDrive" location I selected "Browse" then navigated to the OneDrive folder on my PC and created the new notebook there. Now the notebook syncs through the OneDrive app instead of directly through OneNote. The end result is the same however, as long as you keep OneDrive running. Thanks again for the fix.
