Hi Guys,

Every time I try to access my "Quick Notes" this is what I get. It stays stuck there forever. Is there a way to fix this?

Hi everyone,

Some news - a fix for this issue has been released with update 16.0.7466.2038 or later for OneNote 2016 for Windows desktop. To download the update right away, open any Office app and click File > Account > Update Options >

Update Now.

If you can confirm the updated resolved the issue for you by replying back to this thread, it would be very helpful for the Office team and everyone here.

We appreciate your help.

Regards,

Noyonima

Hi everyone,

OneNote team had finished the investigation of this issue. There will be a updated version of OneNote 2016 that contains solution to this. Also, we have published an article documenting  way to work around the problem, should you experience it: https://support.office.com/article/d1e0568b-19f0-4fe7-adb0-923ed60a3587

Thank you for using OneNote and sorry for the trouble this issue is causing.

I have a work-around based on previous replies to your query.

    1. Create a new notebook with a single section dedicated to just Quick Notes.

I suggest naming it "Quicknotes" so that is easily located on a mobile device.

    1. In File/Options/Save & Backup, configure this as as your "Quick Notes Section".
    2. If you open this notebook directly, you will see that it syncs perfectly.

The issue is not a sync problem but a fault in the operation of the "Quick Notes" button which appears below the notebook list.

    1. Close the Quick Notes notebook then close OneNote and re-open it.

As noted in a previous reply, the Quick Notes button will now work correctly.

    1. Because there is nothing else in your Quick Notes notebook, you can leave it permanently closed so the problem does not re-appear. You can always access your Quick Notes using the button.

Ken, Thanks for your suggestion. I had tried this earlier but when my computer is rebooted the Quick Notes save location resets to the original url and the problem returns. At least in my case.

So I decided to try something a little different. I logged out of all of my devices and powered them off (desktop, phone, laptop and two tablets all on the same Office 365 account) Starting with the desktop I powered up and logged in. Then I followed the steps you suggested. After testing to make sure the fix "stuck" on the desktop, I logged off, powered down and went on to the next device, where I repeated the steps. After individually resetting each device it looks like they are all in sync again.

It seems that if you have multiple devices sharing the account, changes in the option settings don't always get reflected across all devices and sometimes get reset. Oh well.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Hi OneNote Team,

I'm having the same problem as Carlos. Same version of OneNote 2016 (Office 365 Personal) syncing to OneDrive (Personal). I tried all of the suggested work-arounds and none of them worked for me.

I don't know if this will help your investigations, but I noticed that in OneNote Options; under Save & Backup the Quick Notes Section points to https://d.docs.live.net/e\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*4/OneNote/Personal(Web)/Quick Notes.one (I partially overwrote my 16 character code with *s for this message). If I log into OneDrive [using Edge browser] and then paste this url into the address bar I get the message "This item might not exist or is no longer available". Using modify in the Save & Backup Tab to change the section Quick Notes is saved in has no effect. I tried both OneDrive and a local hard drive.

All of my Notebooks and their sections in OneNote 2016, OneNote (Store App) and OneNote (OneDrive) are syncing with each other. But the "new Quick Note" icon in the notification area sends its notes into oblivion and the Quick Notes Tab in the lower left corner never loads. There is a section named "Quick Notes" in my personal OneNote Notebook, I can add and delete items in it, but this section doesn't seem to have any connection to the "new Quick Notes" icon in the notification area or the tab at the bottom of the Notebooks bar.

One other thing, this problem started on my desktop right after the Windows 10 Anniversary Upgrade. The same thing on my laptop a few days later.
