everytime i save a word file on my mac i get this message. 

i'm using ms office v15.22.1. 

Please advise. Thanks

I had this issue for many months and it was very frustrating--It was so frequent that I switched to Pages for a while. Since I have updated Word (running V 15.28 (160927)) for 2-3 weeks, I have not had 1 serious error. I am keeping my fingers crossed. 

I'm on a late 2013 MBA 11, running El Cap 10.11.6

I thought it might be helpful to read a post from someone who has had some good luck...

Hi everyone,

On 9/13/16, we released update 15.26 (160910), the September feature update for Office 2016 for Mac. Please install the update by clicking Help > Check for Updates > Check for Updates. Our engineering team has been intensively working on the ‘serious disk error’ issue and feel that this latest update will resolve it.

If you continue to experience problems, please reply to this thread with the following so that we can further isolate the cause:

  1. A screenshot of the About dialog (that shows the Office build number).
  2. A screenshot of the serious disk error dialog.
  3. The output of running ls ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Word/Data/Library/Application\ Support/Microsoft/Temp from Terminal.
  4. The output of the command defaults read  com.microsoft.Word from Terminal if the issue happens in Word; or defaults read com.microsoft.Outlook if the issue happens in Outlook.

If you continue to experience the same ‘serious disk error’ issue that you did before installing the update, let us know and we will reach out to you in a private message to see if you’re willing to have an engineer speak to you directly to get it resolved.

If you experience any other file-related issues (other than the ‘serious disk error’), let us know that, too.

    I don't use MacKeeper.  Can someone give any advice on how to deal with this problem?

    I also looked into Pages (thought maybe I could do the bulk of a doc. there and then switch back to Word to finalize it, since I'm ultimately locked into Word for my professional work). But there are MANY reviews saying that the newest version is full of flaws, so not going to make myself just as crazy going down that road.

    I need the Mac for various reasons, but on the other hand, I am locked into using Word at least part of the time. Would be impractical to have two computers as I travel. So this is an awful stalemate.

    Has anyone explored the possibility of using a program like Parallels in order to run Word for Windows on the Mac? Would that bypass the incompatibility problem? 

    Ridiculous to have to do that but maybe it's an interim solution?

    Many thanks for your response.  Indeed I also have faults on Pages which even the mac techs can't figure out.  I have reinstalled the OS a couple of months ago. Safari is also a hard task master so overall not a happy experience.

    I am happy using google docs at the moment.

    I am fully aware that things get tested but having done a few contracts in IT (as a non-tech), so I can feel rather safe in presuming that the release went ahead with known issues and that given the percentage of people of effected (with no impact on the bottom line) will not be scoring a high issue rating.

    The number of releases I know are just fixes and the pressure to get out to market far outweighs any interest in consumer impact - as long as the thing generally works with a percentage pass rate - the next release will simply be a suite of fixes.

    In my mind apple does not have comparable software - in all my working life I have never seen any doc written in pages.  And as said, pages has proven very unstable for me - won't even do automatic numbering which is a rather simple editing task.

    So a big no to both and won't be even considering any apple allied products.  I like the interface and was in the begining going to get an iphone but after the debacle of buying this laptop, the poor customer support, the ridiculous issues with safari and pages, and the absolutely negliglible decision to go to market with the el capitan in which this would have been a known issue - I'm done.  Going back to PC - which I would rather not - but have a life to live!

    And it won't be a quiet change back.
