Excel comments not displaying

I am now simply copying the affected cells from the October 2018 version of the file from file history and pasting them into the master file. Tedious but there had been no revision to the corruption. in the master file.

The Right-Click menu doesn't have a Comments option anymore - so I cannot edit existing comments nor add new ones. 

This was for about 30'.

Just now, it has returned, so maybe all is well now.

I have W10 64, Excel 2019

Similar problems with a file I use to track personal savings accounts on a monthly basis going back to 2007 on Office 2016. All comments made before October 2018 now malfunction; some just show indicator and no comment, others show the comment but the box is just a few pixels high although they can be expanded. Interestingly if I go back to previous versions of the file saved before October 2018 in file history, all works fine, so if all else fails I can set up some sort of "archive" file for when I need to check pre-October 2018 comments - a nuisance but a solution of sorts.

In addition to copying information into a new file, I have done the following within the same file:

1. Open the Excel spread sheet(s)
2. Go to the bottom tab of the named sheet
3. Right Click: "Move or Copy"
4. On the bottom is a box "Create a copy"
5. Check "Create a Copy" and then "OK"
6. The copied page is added 
7. Click on copied page and see roll over works
8. If it does, then delete the original page 
9. Save your work

Note:  Any NEWLY ADDED comments after the copy will be a lighter background shade and different font vs. the older version (at least in my case).

This may be an easier solution to those with 5 or less pages in your excel file vs making a new file.  You can keep the copied page and the original one as a temporary backup until you are comfortable in deleting the original page.

HERE'S THE ANSWER, F I N A L L Y  :-)

Office 365's latest updated version don't have this issue.

In other words, if you start a new file and start working on it - these problems don't occur.

However, there is a problem when you use your old files and try to open it with Office 365. There seems to be some compatible issues there.

After months of frustration, and working with right click and EDIT COMMENT, and having to switch tabs to get rid of the comments box ... I ended up with the file shutting down, each time I wanted to view the comment.

So, I chatted with a customer support. And after 2 hours of interacting with the seniors - we were able to find out the COMPATIBILITY ISSUE.

Basically, if you copy your old files where you have your comments stored and paste it on a new file, then the comments can be viewed as you hover over the cell as before.

If you don't do this, then apparently there is no solution offered by Microsoft.

So, I changed my files by copying them into a new file, and it works perfectly alright.

Yes, it's a pain and time consuming to copy and paste on to a new file - but it's a lot better after having lot of frustrations in trying to work with the old ones.
