Excel comments not displaying

I think I have fixed this, at least in terms of "Comments" vs "Notes".  I can't comment on any Mac related issues as I am using Excel under an Office 365 subscription using Windows 10.

I had created my Comment by right-clicking on a cell and selecting to add a Comment.  Whenever I had done this previously, a yellow box would appear with my username at the top to which I could add my text.  Then, once created, I could permanently Show or Hide this using a new menu option which now appeared when right-clicking the relevant cell.

I did the same this morning, but the yellow box didn't appear.  Instead, you get the style of comment which you see in Word, in a grey box with a text field.

After some exploration of this thread and looking at my version of Excel, Microsoft appear to have renamed the older yellow box style "Comments" to "Notes".

If you create a "Note", you will create the yellow box we used to understand to be a Comment which can then be permanently shown or hidden.

I have noticed the comments have changed in Excel, so now one can't show comments permanently as an option on every individual comment.

Anyone know how to fix it so it works like the older version for Excel? The change happened in late December 2018...

Microsoft is unable to fix the bug.

You can create a new file, and copy all the info and paste it on to the new sheet. It then works, and the comments display when you hover over it.

HERE'S THE ANSWER, F I N A L L Y  :-)

Office 365's latest updated version don't have this issue.

In other words, if you start a new file and start working on it - these problems don't occur.

However, there is a problem when you use your old files and try to open it with Office 365. There seems to be some compatible issues there.

After months of frustration, and working with right click and EDIT COMMENT, and having to switch tabs to get rid of the comments box ... I ended up with the file shutting down, each time I wanted to view the comment.

So, I chatted with a customer support. And after 2 hours of interacting with the seniors - we were able to find out the COMPATIBILITY ISSUE.

Basically, if you copy your old files where you have your comments stored and paste it on a new file, then the comments can be viewed as you hover over the cell as before.

If you don't do this, then apparently there is no solution offered by Microsoft.

So, I changed my files by copying them into a new file, and it works perfectly alright.

Yes, it's a pain and time consuming to copy and paste on to a new file - but it's a lot better after having lot of frustrations in trying to work with the old ones.

Do not work for me. Tried to copy the all cell to a new file. The comment still show as a line.
