Word 2016 error.

   "There are too many edits in the document. This operation will be incomplete. Save your work."

Apparently this is an antiquated condition based on the answers posted in 2011.

This is 2016. There is nothing in the blank document.

I've been copying information from WEB into Word for recording and reference for years and have never had this problem until today. Tried piecemeal with no success.

Notice that Office 2016 was recently updated and if this feature was reincorporated it's not a good thing unless there is

an override somewhere in Doc Options that can be switched on to ignore this condition?

The user should be in control. If the MCP is listening please don't take it personal.

Hi everyone,

I’m told that his issue is now fixed in the latest Office 2016 updated, which we recently released.

The current version is 16.0.6965.2058. This update contains features in the May feature update described below, plus new security and non-security updates. To find out more, go to our release notes page, and under Channel, click Current.

To get the update immediately, open any Office 2016 app and choose File > Account > Update Options >Update Now.

    i have found all these replies to be helpful - they show that it is not my computer literacy that is at fault but rather whoever updated word at microsoft.

    like some others i have found a way around the problem - in my case i just copy from the clipboard, but i don't know if this is a long term solution and it is very tiresome.

    i would suggest that the issue can only be solved by microsoft

    I can't see why any of the potential problems that these steps are attempting to fix should be relevant for a system with a completely clean build (ref my earlier post) - Office 2016 was the first application I installed following a clean install of win10pro64.  The only things that I did before installing Office 2016 were:

    • Changed location of user folders to point to another drive (using the location tab in the folder properties)
    • Set up symbolic links for the user/public folders (Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos) to link to folders on another drive.
    • Set up two user accounts
    • Set up Windows Photo Viewer as default viewer.
    • Took a disk image

    I then installed Office 2016 - by the way, I tried the installation of Office twice (restored the image I had taken and repeated the Office install) - still got the same error message.

    I have no intention of working through all the registry tweeks suggested in the link mentioned above.

    I have simplified the steps I mentioned in my first post to get the error to occur repeatedly:

    1. Open Word and create a blank document
    2. Open Snipping Tool and snip a bit of the desktop to get an image
    3. CTRL C in snipping tool, switch to Word, and do CTRL V to paste the image into the document.
    4. Select the image just pasted
    5. Copy or Cut
    6. Attempt to paste back into the document with keep source formatting and the error is displayed

    The error is also displayed if word is started in safe mode or with run winword /a

    I just got this today as well. Working in a document I created weeks ago and just saved as a different name today. I did a few edits then got the same message.  I am using MS Office Professional Plus 2016 Version 16.0.6868.2067. I am in tables, and was copying a graphic into a cell.  "There are too many edits in the document. This operation will be incomplete. Save your work."
