Unable to delete Word file in an Android Device

Yes, this is exactly the approach that I "recommended" (as this is NOT the way it should be) previously.

And, unfortunately, Microsoft does nothing even though they know of this problem.

One more point here is that the Office 365 subscribers (not the smartphone owners, who received a free copy of Office applications together with their phone) should be asking the official Office support and to escalate this issue. Even though they will still try to refuse this or send you the usual copy-paste messages, you should keep on pressing them.

Yes I found that out myself mate, unfortunately their are multiples that seem to be stored somewhere else, doing the method you described does not delete these others

I'm having the same issue. I feel strange and surprised that Microsoft haven't solved this bug although it has been already 2 years. Is there any solution to this yet? Any file I open through the Word app appears on the "Recent" list in Word and still exists even though I deleted the file from the original source of the file. It seems like a cache or something like that.

There are no "real" solutions. All you can do is either hide those (literally hide, but not delete) or clear Word's data, thus deleting all it's own internal cached items including login information.

And you can as well pester MS support for this issue. The more you guys do this the higher chances are of them actually doing stuff.
