Unable to delete Word file in an Android Device

I am trying to delete a file but Word (android GalaxyNote5) is saying I do not have permission to delete

    Your method doesn't work on my android tablet.  I always get the message "you don't have permission to delete this file.

    But there is one way that I've found that does work for me.  I go to settings/apps and go to Word.

    Under storage select clear data.  That clears out all files you've saved  or were sent there.  Before I do this, I make backups onto my laptop of files I want to keep.

    Kind of a inconvenient way to clear out word but it's the only method that works for me.

    Well done 55 year old self described country bumpkin! This is a problem i have had for ages and you solved it so easily for me. Thank you from a 69 year old country bumpkin!

    In spite of the incredibly frustrating responses from these techs -- who appear to not thoroughly look at the informative pleas for help by repeatedly asking questions already answered in the inquiry...

    I have found an amazingly Simple solution!!....

    Go to Settings > device maintenance > storage > documents > select (all pdf and others you don't want) > delete.

    That's it!! So simple!! Less than 2 minutes!  Done!!

    .... and I am a 55 yr old country bumpkin with absolutely NO computer or tech training!!!

    OMG Christine....thank you so much... this issue of not being able to delete files has frustrated me for months and the solution as you say is soooo simple.  Why on earth haven't the technical gurus picked up on this!.  Sincere thanks!
