Student Progress Database Application

Hello everyone!

I want to make an application for keeping track of students’ progress marks each month of the year using Access 2010. Suppose I have 10 literacy centers in 10 different locations each with 35-40 students enrolled. I want to generate a monthly Access  report showing the progress of each student in each of the subjects taught.

I have designed forms for entering details of each center, instructor and student saved in separate tables. All I need to do is find a way to generate month-wise students’ progress reports for each of the 10 literacy centers to be handed over to the center manager.

What would be the best way this could be done using Access 2010?

    I did design the forms the way you instructed in the first place, but was having trouble filtering the students according to the CenterCode so I took it apart and just to show you I designed the one in the screenshot. If this is hard enough, then, do I have to revert back to the one you have instructed? Will I be able to enter the marks of each student per center for each month of the year? I'm ready to do that too if I can link the combo box to filter the form according to the CenterCode.

    Okay Scott, I'll have to work closely along with you on this. First of all you tell me how best you would have this designed if you were in my place? I just need to make this form simple and intuitive enough for the data entry person, so she never runs into any problems.

    The basic question is then, how would someone feed the marks of the student into their courses each month?

    First, I'm not following what you did, its not what I instructed. Second, The subform you show in the screenshot is not in keeping with the structure we have discussed. Having columns for each course is not proper normalized design.

    If you want to use an interface like that, you will have to use unbound forms hihc will require a significant amount of coding.

    Hi Scott,

    I made the main form using the form wizard and then put a combo box on the main form to filter records. Then I made use of the form wizard a second time for the sub form but could not filter the records from the sub form. Then I deleted the sub form and dragged tblStudents onto the main form and added fields from other 2 tables wiz. tblCourse and tblStudentsProgress onto the subform. I've attached a screenshot of the way I wanted the design of the form to be. When I select the CenterCode from the combo box, I want the sub form to display student names along with their courses in the sub form. This is the way I would like the application to work. But I just can't get the combo box to filter the records programmatically.

    Please help me to design it this way.

    You are just absolutely wonderful. I admire the way you help people like me who are novices. Let me work on the form design and maybe get back to you tomorrow. Then I need to know how to design a custom marks report for each center. See you till then.,
