I'm wondering what people think - Excel 2016 for Mac seems to be so bad that it must be intentional. Am I wrong? Is Microsoft still waging a low-grade war on Mac users by making their products subtly awful on a Mac? Is it just that they have really bad developers? Is it that the developers are good but the management somehow makes them do terrible work? Is it that whoever is in charge of designing Excel for Mac has an ex who uses it for his/her job and this person has devoted his/her life to making his/her ex's life bad in confusing ways? Has a nefarious actor infiltrated Microsoft in order to make their products just bad enough that companies will continue to use them but their awfulness will create a small long-term drag on the US economy? Answers would be appreciated. Thanks!

ok! I have an old imac mid 2010, with exel 2016, that is not working well. I though the problem was on imac, but basing in what you said, even if I buy a new one, it still will have the same problem?
The problem is Excel 2016, not your aged Mac. To be fair, MS does seem to have improved Excel. But thus iteslf is the issue: the MS business model is to sell software that is permanently beta.
Excel 2016 on a 9 to 10 year old Mac will feel sluggish.
I have been using this product for many years now and frankly am giving up on any decent update from Microsoft. Multiprocessing is a joke. While 2016 runs perfectly fine and uses multiple processors on Windows, on macOS it uses 1 processor.
Releases are very poor and specifically after 16.12 - almost every release has contained bugs, unusable features or even the app crashing with no specific reason.
I have given up on the tool and am converting now to using Numbers while doing all the manipulations in some open-source programming language.
At least I should thank Microsoft for turning my anger into finding other approaches to dealing with their poor product.
Multi-core calculation was added to Excel for Mac in March 2018
