Cannot open downloaded Word documents after Windows 10

Hello,

I cannot open downloaded Word documents (powerpoint included) that I download onto my computer from email or my online class. This happened after I downloaded Windows 10. My spyware is turned off and it does not change anything. Any tips if there is something else turned on I can't figure out to open them? I tried going through word and in a "repair" view but it still wouldn't open.

    In Word, you can always look for Office 2016 updates via File | Account | Update Options | Update Now.

    I am having the same problem.

    Upgraded to Windows 10. Upgraded to Office 2016. Cannot open Word 2013 files that are sent to me via email. I just ran an update on Office 2016 and the problem persists. I see that MS indicated in August 2015 that it will soon issue a fix. Any idea of when a fix will be available (it is now mid-December)?

    Save the attachments to the local drive and then in File Explorer, right click on the file and then click on Properties and check the Unblock box.  Then you should be able to open the files by using File>Open in Word.

    I am having the same issue, and it is not feasible for me to save and unblock every file that comes my way, I receive far too many documents a day to do that. 

    I have updated to the latest version, and have tried the command prompt suggested here: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/office-documents-do-not-open-upgrading-to-windows-10

    It is inconceivable that Microsoft has not fixed this yet, these are some of the most basic functions of Office- receive file in Outlook, open file. 

    Any additional assistance or advice is greatly appreciated.

    Have you tried disabling the "Enable Protected View for Outlook attachments" under File>Options>Trust Center>Trust Center Settings>Protected View?
