Cannot open downloaded Word documents after Windows 10

Hello,

I cannot open downloaded Word documents (powerpoint included) that I download onto my computer from email or my online class. This happened after I downloaded Windows 10. My spyware is turned off and it does not change anything. Any tips if there is something else turned on I can't figure out to open them? I tried going through word and in a "repair" view but it still wouldn't open.

    not helpful

    updated, and still cannot open word 2000 doc with office 365 on windows 10.  And, there is no 'block' to be unblocked

    There is a known issue with Protected view after upgrading to Windows 10, according to the Office team. A bug fix will be released.

    What you can do, in the meantime, is download the file, right-click its icon, choose Properties from the context menu, and Unblock the file. Note that you should only Unblock files that you know are safe to open.

    I don't have this problem until today. Now I cannot open word, excel, and power point attachment directly from Outlook. Need to download the file first and unblock. This is SUPER annoying.

    Same thing if the office file were downloaded from internet.

    With Word's default settings it is normal that files from certain sources (and files of certain types) open in Protected view. Or are you saying that the file(s) won't open at all?

    You can turn off the options at File | Options | Trust Center | Trust Center Settings | Protected View if you wish. Be careful when opening potentially unsafe files.

    First of all, see if turning off Read Mode makes a difference. At File | Options | General, clear the check mark next to "Open e-mail attachments and other uneditable files in reading view." Read Mode is not a security setting, and usualy you just want to start editing a document immediately of course.
