Cannot open downloaded Word documents after Windows 10

Hello,

I cannot open downloaded Word documents (powerpoint included) that I download onto my computer from email or my online class. This happened after I downloaded Windows 10. My spyware is turned off and it does not change anything. Any tips if there is something else turned on I can't figure out to open them? I tried going through word and in a "repair" view but it still wouldn't open.

    The files are blocked because under File>Options>Trust Center>Trust Center Settings>Protected View, there is a check mark in the box for "Enable Protected View for Outlook attachments".

    Hi

    Half the time unblock works, the other half of the time it does not. Anyway, why are these files being blocked - that is the issue to solve. This has never been a problem prior to W 10.

    Also my start menu still does not work. It has worked on about a dozen occasions otherwise it makes me sign out.

    I believe that is an important clue. You may have to right-click the icon for each file, choose Properties, then Unblock and finally click Apply.

    I think that all the files which I am having problems with came originally as email attachments.  I am not absolutely sure which folder they are in - some seem to be in the default downloads folder but one I just looked at is in users\me\AppData\Local\Temp  and I'm not sure why it was put there - presumably by the browser (Firefox).
