Cannot open downloaded Word documents after Windows 10

Hello,

I cannot open downloaded Word documents (powerpoint included) that I download onto my computer from email or my online class. This happened after I downloaded Windows 10. My spyware is turned off and it does not change anything. Any tips if there is something else turned on I can't figure out to open them? I tried going through word and in a "repair" view but it still wouldn't open.

    I have been trying to get to that box to check, but whenever I open "properties" in mine, there is no box. Very annoying. I have the home edition. It is feasible I am missing it somewhere, but it has not been easy to locate.

    When I try the "test compatibility" option (for those who do not have the compatibility tab), the repair message just pops up again, so I cannot complete the recommended instructions.

    This issue was fixed for me when I removed the check mark to run Word in compatibility mode.

    Thanks, Stefan. I had seen that yesterday. The potential repairs did not work for me, and I sent a short response to MS indicating the problem still persists. I am just shifting to another word processor until when or if some more definitive solution can be found.

    The specific message I get is:

    "We're sorry but Word has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Word will need to close as a result.

    Would you like to repair now?"

    Doug,

    Thanks. I am new to this community and have to find my way around. The specific message I get is:

    "We're sorry but Word has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Word will need to close as a result.

    Would you like to repair now?"

    When I select the repair button option the message closes and that's it. Nothing happens. I'll see if I can track a thread with that specific phrasing and if not open a new one.
