I recently upgraded to Office 2016 Preview from Office 2013. I had several POP / IMAP and Exchange accounts that all worked fine prior to the upgrade. After the upgrade the POP / IMAP accounts work fine but non of the Exchange accounts work. I got the following message "Outlook cannot log on. Verify you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name. The Microsoft Exchange information service in your profile is missing required information. Modify your profile to ensure that you are using the correct Microsoft Exchange information service" Ok, so deleted the account and tried to set it up again however, under "Add Account" there is no longer an option to set up an Exchange account. There are only two options: 1) Outlook.com or Exchange ActiveSync compatible service or 2) POP or IMAP. The Microsoft Exchange Server or compatible service option is missing?

Well, this makes Outlook 2016 a deal breaker for me then... My employer does not have autodiscover configured, and my chances to convince my IT department to do it are nonexistent.
How come this functionality has been completely discarded? I completely understand there are *very* good reasons to use autodiscover, but what if some companies with on-premises Exchange servers won't do it?
I can downgrade now my Office 365 apps back to the 2013 versions, but when the 2016 versions hit release status, will I be locked out of them?

When outlook 2016 hits release status, you will not be able to use it with your exchange mailbox unless/until autodiscover records are added.
I'm not exactly sure why they decided to remove the ability to manually add accounts, although it has something to do with mapi over http support and making it easier for end users. By using autodiscover, the account is correctly configured for mapi/http if it is supported. With mapi/http, Outlook uses an http url, not a server name. It also doesn't need the additional configuration for on the Connection tab.

I talked with my Exchange admin, and she confirmed that our Exchange server will never, ever have autodiscover properly configured. So, that's that. It's OWA for me then :'-(
While I can agree that using autodiscover has many advantages, I wish MS could reconsider to have an advanced settings option for users like me who have stubborn Exchange admins :-) As it is now, I will not be able to use Outlook (which I like - a lot) with my work account.

Understand that Outlook 2016 will sync with Microsoft Exchange only if the exchange server is set to auto discover. There is no longer an option for Microsoft Exchange in 'Add Account'.
Sorry but this is really aggravating to say the least and I hope that there may be a fix available.....
