How to reduce the size of quick access toolbar icons? (Office 2016)

With the update to Office 2016 the Quick Access Toolbar icons were enlarged.

I used to have a filled Quick Access toolbar for Excel and now they do not fit defeating the purpose.

Is there any way to reduce the size of Quick Access Toolbar items?

Folks, our shared UX controls team have been following this thread, as well as your requests on UserVoice and are spinning up some work to address your concerns. I can't promise a specific date for getting this work out to you all, but they recognize the impact this has had on those of you who work with customized QAT and are moving very quickly.

When they're done you'll see the improvement arrive as part of the regular updates we send all subscription customers.

    Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. 

    You have to use the "Quick determine Office applications Path" command first to find out where Office 2010 / Version 14 is installed on your computer. Then you modify the commands I provided to use your path. 

    With the customized path, first run the "****....\winword.exe"  /Unregserver command then follow it by the ... ****... /RegServer command.

    I save a couple of clicks by putting the "Open Recent File" command on the QAT. I have about 40 files pinned on my recent files list.

    You were plenty clear enough.  I had no problem with the getting right path for each installation. That is pretty basic stuff.  

     So, per your instructions, I first went to 2016 with the unreg switch, then back to 2016 with the reg switch,  followed by going to 2010 with the reg switch, as you listed.  That didn't work.  So I went back to 2016 with the unreg switch, and manually tried to associate programs with extensions.  Windows 10 and Office 2016 said no.  That is some obstreperous programming. 

    Maybe if I uninstalled 2010 (with its 2003 components such as image extension- 2016 tools and interface are abominable), then reinstall, that might work?

    You don't have to do 2016,  or if you do, just do the unregserver.  Then follow with 2010 unregserver and 2010 regserver command.

    It is the regserver command that resets the file associations.

    Yes, an uninstall and re-install is the next step.  First try uninstall from control panel and if that doesn't work, then try using the FixIt uninstall before doing re-install.

    Well I was gonna say it didnt work, as you still cannot load from direct launch out of the directory.  But  a simple right click brings up the desktop shortcut to 2010, and all is good. That I can put up with.  Maybe I will even get to choose it as default once 2016 deigns to do so.  Thanks for the tip.
