How to reduce the size of quick access toolbar icons? (Office 2016)

With the update to Office 2016 the Quick Access Toolbar icons were enlarged.

I used to have a filled Quick Access toolbar for Excel and now they do not fit defeating the purpose.

Is there any way to reduce the size of Quick Access Toolbar items?

Folks, our shared UX controls team have been following this thread, as well as your requests on UserVoice and are spinning up some work to address your concerns. I can't promise a specific date for getting this work out to you all, but they recognize the impact this has had on those of you who work with customized QAT and are moving very quickly.

When they're done you'll see the improvement arrive as part of the regular updates we send all subscription customers.

    I went looking for the QAT fix in that blog and did not find it there (actually, I gave up before reaching the end because it was so much of search for a needle in a haystack.  ie this months KB:

    Some of the articles have a section like this:

    Fixes the following issues: 

    • You start Outlook 2016, and you use a right-to-left language. In this situation, when you move another window over Outlook 2016, a redraw issue occurs, and the background of Outlook 2016 isn't repainted correctly. Therefore, it is difficult to read the content in Outlook 2016.
    • After you change from Mouse mode to Touch mode in Office 2016 applications, the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) icons aren't enlarged.

    And, actually I assume that this fix would not be there since it was released 2 days after the blog was published.  Will this fix, and Styles Pane problem ever be added to that blog?

    My guess would be that these fixes will not be added to that entry.

    I can only hope there will be a new supplementary notice like there was in November.  But given MS's track record, I would not be surprised if documentation of these important fixes "slips through the cracks".

    "Spoke with the deployment team and (I had a d'oh moment) they pointed out that subscription customers can do the following:

    1. In Word, Excel, PowerPoint Select/click the "File" tab header
    2. Select/click "Account"

    You'll see a big button on the left called "Office Updates" with the text "Update Options" on it.

    If you select/click the button one of the options is "Update Now" - if we're rolling an upgrade this should pick it up and apply it to your installation.

    I had already been down that route and there was no change to the QAT.  It seems that XenAdmin has also tried this, without bearing fruit.  Just tried again and I have the same message that XenAdmin encountered; "You're up to date!". 

    Wrapping QAT = Quietly Accumulating Torment.
