How to reduce the size of quick access toolbar icons? (Office 2016)

With the update to Office 2016 the Quick Access Toolbar icons were enlarged.

I used to have a filled Quick Access toolbar for Excel and now they do not fit defeating the purpose.

Is there any way to reduce the size of Quick Access Toolbar items?

Folks, our shared UX controls team have been following this thread, as well as your requests on UserVoice and are spinning up some work to address your concerns. I can't promise a specific date for getting this work out to you all, but they recognize the impact this has had on those of you who work with customized QAT and are moving very quickly.

When they're done you'll see the improvement arrive as part of the regular updates we send all subscription customers.

Thanks again for the clear feedback, both here and on UserVoice - keep it coming!

Cheers...pc

After hours of frustration, I found the solution to the nasty QAT spacing. Right-click on the QAT down arrow. Add Touch/Mouse Mode to the QAT. Click on the icon's down arrow and select Mouse. Ta-Da! in Mouse mode we've got the old spacing back. In Tablet mode the spacing wides for touch. NOW, how to get the icons back in COLOR?!

Below is a copy of a post I wrote 02/17/16 - I don't know if it will solve your problem, but it worked for me...

THE QAT IS BACK!  Sorry for shouting, but I am so happy the "Quick" is back in the QAT.  After reading Lee Coventry's post, I manually updated et voila, little buttons with little spacing.  And the Touch/Mouse Modeactually works.  Many, many thanks.

Just one question, however - even though my account page reads "Updates are automatically updated and installed," I had to run U****pdate Now to get the update.  ???

    SO glad QAT is fixed...

We should ALWAYS be given the option - but somehow Micrtosoft fails to see that, when making new stuff!

Hello...any luck with this yet?  I'm one of those who customized my QAT, and now a quarter of my bar is "missing" (sure, it's an extra click away, but, isn't that the point of the QAT is to reduce clicking?)

    Thanks!
