How to reduce the size of quick access toolbar icons? (Office 2016)

With the update to Office 2016 the Quick Access Toolbar icons were enlarged.

I used to have a filled Quick Access toolbar for Excel and now they do not fit defeating the purpose.

Is there any way to reduce the size of Quick Access Toolbar items?

Folks, our shared UX controls team have been following this thread, as well as your requests on UserVoice and are spinning up some work to address your concerns. I can't promise a specific date for getting this work out to you all, but they recognize the impact this has had on those of you who work with customized QAT and are moving very quickly.

When they're done you'll see the improvement arrive as part of the regular updates we send all subscription customers.

    Well it was all running fine until the latest win10 update automatically installed last night.  Now it doesn't link to winword10 anymore.  No matter what I do with unregserver/regserver commands.   I rebooted, and no luck.  So I even tried to "open with", and typed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\winword.exe, and still comes up with Word16.  ****?  So I went to system restore, and lo and behold, when upgrading to 10, the system restore setting was turned off by default.  ****?  So no luck there.  Almost ready to completely rebuild the installation.  

    MS has to be the most spiteful organization ever created.  Foisting this piece of **** office product on us  in the first place, and then making it impossible to use superior software they themselves used to make!

    I cannot fathom what goes through the developers heads.  If there was any competition, MS would be bankrupt.  Is there any hope for a desktop version of Office16 with cleartype and icons not made with crayons?

    Another "me too" here. The worst part about this is that from Office 2010 to 2013 it deteriorated once, and then from 2013 to 2016 it deteriorated even further, getting even worse, AND there is no way to control or customize it.

    Why not even a basic option such as a simple "large icons" or "small icons" choice, such as Windows has always had for decades in the-file-management-app-currently-known-as-File-Explorer-although-formerly-known-as-Windows-Explorer-and-also-called-My-Computer-or-just-Computer-but-formerly-known-as-File-Manager-and-probably-slated-for-yet-another-rename-as-soon-as-the-next-version-of-Windows-comes-out (can we just call it TFMACKAFEAFKAWEAACMCOJCBFKAFMAPSFYARASATNVOWCO "for short"? Some UI design professional would evidently love the ease of use on that one!)

    Well I was gonna say it didnt work, as you still cannot load from direct launch out of the directory.  But  a simple right click brings up the desktop shortcut to 2010, and all is good. That I can put up with.  Maybe I will even get to choose it as default once 2016 deigns to do so.  Thanks for the tip.

    You don't have to do 2016,  or if you do, just do the unregserver.  Then follow with 2010 unregserver and 2010 regserver command.

    It is the regserver command that resets the file associations.

    Yes, an uninstall and re-install is the next step.  First try uninstall from control panel and if that doesn't work, then try using the FixIt uninstall before doing re-install.
