How to reduce the size of quick access toolbar icons? (Office 2016)

With the update to Office 2016 the Quick Access Toolbar icons were enlarged.

I used to have a filled Quick Access toolbar for Excel and now they do not fit defeating the purpose.

Is there any way to reduce the size of Quick Access Toolbar items?

Folks, our shared UX controls team have been following this thread, as well as your requests on UserVoice and are spinning up some work to address your concerns. I can't promise a specific date for getting this work out to you all, but they recognize the impact this has had on those of you who work with customized QAT and are moving very quickly.

When they're done you'll see the improvement arrive as part of the regular updates we send all subscription customers.

    Hello Patrick,

    I read your reply regarding the size of the Quick Access Toolbar. Aside from the icons being larger impacting the number of icons that can fit in the toolbar, the toolbar along with the ribbon take up a larger space on the screen.

    This means less space for viewing and working. You know, the most logical way to go is to increase the working area - not the opposite. It's probably the major reason why most applications have done away with menu toolbars and have moved to alternative options [something I don't really agree with by the way-I still find menus very useful].

    There is another thing about the icons though. They have changed in appearance as well-making them less appealing.

    They seem to be less crisp in appearance. I am not sure if I am describing it properly.

    I should tell you that I have recently migrated from Excel 2003 to Excel 2010 - for a brief period of time - and then migrated to Excel 2016. I admit to struggling with the ribbon concept but managed to adapt. Upon migrating to Excel 2016 I immediately saw the difference - for the worse. So it's not like I have been using Excel 2010 for a really long time and it's taking time for me to adapt.

    Unfortunately this change showed me a working environment clearly less appealing and has gotten me started looking for alternative applications to replace Microsoft's.

    I would seriously recommend in considering any negative reception Microsoft Office 2016 has had and act.

    I'd be happy to send you a screen shot of the items on my Quick Access Toolbar.

    I use it all the time, as it allows me to keep the other ribbons minimised (I am English), giving me more usable screen space within Excel, and allowing me to use the backslash key and a character to access the feature I want.

    I have 46 items on my toolbar, including the icon for creating a pivot table, Tracing Precedents, and Dependents, as well as the basic File Open, File Save, Save as, Print range settings, Delete Sheet.

    Have you changed from Touch to Mouse .... it's the last icon on the QAT. It's not perfect but it's better.

    Ah now I understand your problem. 

    I am with you. Really, the interface uses half of the screen. But you can turn it off.

    Microsoft would have better gone on vacation for 10 years after Windows xt ...everything worked fine.

    But then stupid apple arrived and since then, every application got "optimized" for dummies. (Or for the complete idiot).

    And today we are back in the times when writing with the fingertips...
