How to reduce the size of quick access toolbar icons? (Office 2016)

How could anyone think that making the icons so big that only a small number of them are visible could possible be an "improvement?"

Doesn't MS have a user group that you run these things by?

How could anyone think making icons big ... probably the same type of person as one I once encountered. In the late 90's I was rolling out new computers with 17" monitors (at $1500 for just the monitor!).  They loved it. They pulled it as close as possible on the desk, and set the screen resolution to 640x480.  Wonderful ...  I couldn't stretch my arms enough to be comfortable working at it, but they were happy.

I have proposed a theory that the user group MS hires is made up of aliens, "little-green-men" and "bug-eye-monsters".  It explains the results ...

MS uses "statistics" it has collected to justify all of these decisions.  My statistics prof like to quote Mark Twain:

"There are Lies, damned lies, and statistics"

I'd ask that you try to describe how you use the QAT, how the change has impacted your use of Excel. The more you tell us about what you are trying to get done (and how we are getting in your way) the greater the impact of your feedback.

I know that *every* engineering team in Office values this feedback, and takes it into consideration when planning work so it isn't just a back hole.

Why do we have to explain in detail how we use it and how it is negatively impacting us?  Is it not enough to explain that this is a root level issue?

The exaggerated icon spacing doesn't allow most of the icons to be seen.  This stops it from being a single click QUICK Access Toolbar.  Multiple clicks in the Ribbon system and keyboard combinations in the middle of mousing are not solutions.  It is also detrimental to productivity to no longer be able to see the file name beside the QAT when I'm working on multiple files simultaneously.

Can a notification be sent when this problem is corrected?  I have turned off automatic updates so that the problems aren't made worse.

When they're done you'll see the improvement arrive as part of the regular updates we send all subscription customers.

Glad to hear you are thinking about it.

I hope this doesn't mean this will be another way "encouraging" Office 2016 owners to switch to 365. By punishing them with a carpy UI.  Not fair, they are paying customers too.

I also share your views on the loss of functionality of the Quick Access Toolbars in Word and Excel in particular.  I have noted that all the icons are there but you have to go to the rhs  end of the overly now spacious QAT and there is a barely visible down arrow which will drop down the remaining icons not showing on the initial QAT.  It would be better for all if we could simply determine icon size as an option in Customise the QAT.
