Excel 2016: double-clicking on a file opens two Excel windows

Since I have upgraded from Office 2013 to Office 2016 (from Office 365 Home), I get the following behavior in Excel:

If I double-click on a [shortcut to a] file, Excel starts with two Windows open:

one with the requested document
one blank window with no document loaded

Any clue?

This didn't work but put me on the track to discover a solution at last. It's the personal macro workbook in the XLSTART folder. Without it Excel only opens just the one session so, solution is to copy it somewhere else rename it, delete it in the XLSTART folder, open Excel, record a short macro to save in personal workbook thereby generating a new PERSONAL.XLSB file, then open the old renamed PERSONALtmp.XLSB file and copy your code into the new one. Da da (for me anyway). Hope it works for everyone else.

Create a new PERSONAL.XLSB then copy the code from the old one into the new one. Worked for me.

Vijay's reply enabled me to stop this intensely annoying phenomenon - there were several folders which I HAD NOT placed in the EXCEL folder (from corrupt and long since deleted workbooks, no less) - and once they were deleted only one window (the one I selected) opens; I agree with all those commenting that this bug should have been eradicated ages ago as I noticed it in 2010 and 2013 as well (though not on the Mac variants).

I exported all of my modules to .bas files (probably should've backed them up long ago so this was a good idea) then imported them again after letting 2016 create the new Personal file and it worked perfectly. Thank you so much!

Add the following code to the ThisWorkbook object for Personal.xlsb:
```
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean)
    Windows("PERSONAL.XLSB").Visible = False
    ThisWorkbook.Save
End Sub
